In my roll, I work with the 3 main distributors; Tech Data, Ingram Micro and Westcoast and help them solve their issue of Volume renewals that aren't being chased on. I do this with 1 other apprentice through emailing the end-user providing them with the information they need in order to renew and the consequences if they don't.
since starting the job, I have learnt how to use programs such as SAP and Sales force whilst further improving my knowledge of existing programs which are outlook and Excel. I have also had practice cold calling customers for partners, teaching me the fundamental aspects of sales and speaking to customers.
Although the work load is quite tedious, involving a lot of copying and pasting in outlook and SAP, it is quite gratifying when you make a sale and have provided value to the company. The programme provided by Remit itself has proven to be quite helpful in teaching me both the natural skills of selling as well as the simple concepts of technology.
As the first cohort of Sales apprentices at HPE, the programme flt a bit rushed to begin with. However, when the training started, everything fell into place, and we started to learn a lot and was thrown quite quickly into the work load, which is my preferred way to learn.
As we are the 'guinea pigs' for this new apprenticeship programme, there has been an abundance of support from the team. They have provided us all with Sales mentors and buddies for general queries. We have also had high levels of involvement in some o the more important operations, making us feel less like apprentices and more like employees.
As we have 2 tutors from Remit, which we see each of them once a month, they provide us with the training that we need in order to get where we need to be. There isn't much contact outside of the time they come to the office, however whenever we need to speak to them, they reply via email quickly.
When joining the job, I already had competency in IT and most things technical, so the first few months I was being taught what I already knew, meaning the time wasn't being used productively. However, with the natural sales training, it has helped me greatly with contacting customers in the correct way.
One big part of HPE's values is giving back to the community. Since starting I have been involved greatly in volunteering with 2 charities. This has benefited me as it has allowed me to give time to the charities as well as have a day out of the office.
Yes
Because the culture of the company has proven to be an employee focused culture, helping people grow and make it feel less like a job and more like a career. They also have a strong focus on young minds, so mixing with people in a similar situation to me adds to the atmosphere.
Work in sales, and be yourself. In our day and age, it is promoted to be comfortable in yourself and be who you want to be. HPE promote diversity and don't care what your background is. And working in Sales has proven to be a really enjoyable industry that i'd highly recommend starting out in.
