  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My Role is an apprentice in Cyber security Technologist. My daily activities consist of research about cyber security and watching Plural sight videos as a form of coursework. When Im not doing that, I take care of our billing platform and the telecoms side of the business, this helps to enhance my experience in a day to day business environment.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • the amount of information I have gathered just from using the tools Firebrand have given me, is crazy. I have learned about all the different types of Phishing attacks, it has helped me get to grips with Vulnerability testing and assessments. It has helped enhance my skills in the sense that I now know more about Cyber Security than I ever have and it was so easy to learn, In regards to the resources I was given.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme to a normal level, like anyone would. I am enjoying it more that I believed I would originally as it is not been a regular boring course. When I use the plural sight application, it has different professionals telling you and showing you visuals on the topic you are re-searching. This keeps things new and exciting and helps you keep focused as you can take notes down whilst watching the video.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My Programme is not structured to the best it could be. This is because the learning mentor I have does not seem to understand or get the idea of what I do. The resources I am given are amazing but the support of the learning mentor could be better. However, once staff member does not defy a company.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a regular amount of support fro my employer. I will be getting more involved with the Cyber department too the company, so my employer is not as heavily involved in that area, so in that case I don't receive as much support as I could do. However, when it comes to the day to day running of the business I do receive support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • From ym experience, I have not recurved as much support as I would've liked. The projects are a big thing as they build up towards my end-point assessment. However, I wasn't shown a clear and easy guide, ( from my training provider mentor) on how to successfully complete a project to a high standard.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I fell like the qualifications I'm working towards will propel me to a bright future. I am doing a level 4 qualification, so if I pass the end point assessments, I will have a lot of opportunities to take my skills wherever I want. Also, the way of getting the label 4 is so much better for me as I learn more in a working environment that I do In a classroom. Firebrand have enabled me to work and also get amazing qualifications.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There aren't any sport or extra activities to be heavily involved in at the moment. We have Expo's that we go to and an occasional partner event but nothing that is a regular occurrence. However, the type of company that I work it, it is not a sporting company.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The qualifications that are available are extremely good. The one I am doing is a degree level, which is amazing as I never wanted to goto university as it is not my type of thing. I would recommend it as the resources you are given to learn from are very beneficial and lets you learn at your pace.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Combined Technical Solutions?
  • When you apply, have a clear idea of which course is most beneficial to you and also have a clear set out plan of how you will revise and research things that are related to the course you are on. Also, just give it your all because the benefits of achieving the some of the qualifications that are at hand will benefit your future so much.
