  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to day I work consulting on projects for customers of HPE. These can last a few months up to maybe a year and vary in location. I work on the technical side of these projects but gain a broad view of the business processes that are involved in successfully running a project.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed many new skills in and around technical consultancy. I work in a customer environment which helped develop business efficacy skills and develop my image. I have also learnt the technical skills that allow me to be a chargeable asset to the company on projects such as migration projects

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme alot. Although I have completed the current modules of the apprenticeship to a high standard, i enjoy working significantly more than completing coursework, exams and attending development days with the training provider (QA). However, the apprenticeship provider has been made aware of this and they are working to improve it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • In terms of how business processes are organised and how my employer arranges internal training, I think that it is structured very well. However, from the training provider there is definitely room for improvement. Since highlighting this they have been working to improve the organisation so time will tell how that goes.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive as much support from my employer as I ask for. This is the best it can be in my opinion as this means I am not coddled which would not allow me to develop as much as possible. I feel that I am currently receiving sufficient support at work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training support from the training provider has generally been quite poor. Despite having a "skills coach" who holds us accountable for goals set, i feel like the response from us complaining (myself and other apprentices) has been quite poor with little remediation but hopefully this will improve going forward.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • At present, the two modules I have completed have been loosely related to the projects I have been involved with. I still found that I have gained a greater knowledge about challenges that other projects may bring such as projects related to developing network security and data communication solutions for example

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are frequently opportunities to network through corporate events and development days among early careers staff. Moreover, younger employees such as interns have been arranging social activities which has proven to be another great opportunity to meet people. As for sports, im aware that some apprentices take part in a 5 aside football league.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Hewlett Packard Enterprise to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They have been welcoming and supporting through every stage of the apprenticeship so far and hopefully will continue to be so. I dont feel as though any of us have been forgotten about which i know can be an issue with some companies taking on apprentices for the first time.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hewlett Packard Enterprise?
  • At this point I dont have much feedback to give. Maybe just to make sure that all apprentices get work to do as i know some have not been given the opportunity to work on a project yet which may lead to them feeling as though theyve been forgotten by HPE
