  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a technical consultant, in my team I am mainly involved with Data Center care for clients and customers who use our products. Day-to-Day work varies, I could face a period of time where I spend a lot of time within the office or doing remote work for customers, alternatively I could be aligned to a specific project for with other members of my team and spend my days out on a client site doing work for them there.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As of yet I have received the opportunities for many different training events, some of which I have attended and have been extremely interesting, it really gave me a much broader idea as to what it is our company actually does, and even brought to light some software I didn't even know existed. communication is key within our role and that is why I try to introduce myself to as many people as I can, overall I feel that even just by spending time in the office I have become a lot more confident.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme withing HPE has been extremely well organised, especially considering this is something new for the company. We were put through a well thought out 3 week on-boarding period which really helped me get to grips with how the company worked etc. the on-boarding process even offered small training exercises which helped brush up on things like presentation skills.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • When we first began working, we were allocated a mentor, this is someone who has worked with the company for a number of years and is there to answer any questions or queries that we may have. I found this very useful, more so towards the beginning of the apprenticeship as it was still all very new. Now we have progressed further we have our managers who are open to questions all of the time and also some of the other apprentices are always happy to help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Support from QA is okay, sometimes we can be left in the dark about certain topics, for the most part, support is there in the form of weekly conference calls and also an allocated skills coach who we meet face to face with every few weeks to discuss our current module and also any concerns we have.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Our qualification remains relevant to our work, it has a number of modules which directly correlate to our work, we are also given a work based portfolio to work through this is a document which follows a number of criteria that are used within our project work, we then need to write a set amount of words regarding these certain criteria which really helps us realise exactly what we are doing.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Whilst working for HPE there are often a lot of opportunities to get involved with volunteering for a number of different charities outside of work, we are allocated a set amount of volunteering hours per month and are encouraged to use all of these up. Others also start up different events, such as teams in tough mudder 5k runs and also even 5 a side football teams

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Everyone here is extremely helpful and friendly, the company does some great work and it is amazing to see how far technology is progressing. • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hewlett Packard Enterprise?
  • Ask Questions! Sometimes things move at a very fast pace, especially through the on-boarding process, if you are ever unsure just ask, there really is no such thing a stupid question. People are there to help you, and they are always extremely happy to do so, utilize the people you have and also the skills you have already acquired to help out others who may be in need of assistance.
