  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • No day is the same, currently I work within the Safety & Security department providing support for the new incident reporting tool that has been implemented across the whole business. Previously I have worked in Marketing, Sales and Distribution.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Communication is a skill that I have definitely improved since joining as an apprentice. I have learnt that there are different stakeholders internally and externally, which means that method of communication and style has to be tailored specifically to the recipient. This is just one of the many skills I have learnt.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed my time on the programme a great deal. I have been exposed to a large number of projects across a wide variety of departments where I have been involved with and led numerous projects, as well as delivered key business objectives. I think the opportunity BA provides is second to none.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the structure of my programme is extremely good. The scheme is 2 years and within the time there are four six month placements. This gives enough time to settle into a team and understand your role and then time to actually utilise the knowledge that has been developed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support from my employer is good, my programme manager is there if ever I need her and is always around to have a discussion. My placement managers have all been extremely supportive, allowing me to develop myself in both personal and work aspects by giving me the opportunity to work on projects with large exposure around the business.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I personally think that I receive a great deal of support from my training provider, she is always looking push me and get the best results out of me which I personally think is the best way to be. The targets that she sets are all more than achievable which is good.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel the qualification is very relatable to my day to day role, it gives me the fundamental knowledge that I can then apply to understanding how the organisation and my team work which then allows me to understand how I need to work in the environment. The qualification useful.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of things to get involved with outside of work. Us apprentices regularly meet up outside of work which is always fun to do. All the departments I have worked in also hold regular team away days which help to build relationships within a team and increase morale.

  • 9a. Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great environment to work in, where lots of experience can be gained. I have developed lots in both a personal and work environment and it would be extremely easy for anyone else to do the same. I cannot praise the Head Office Apprenticeship scheme enough, it is extremely beneficial.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
  • Be yourself, when recruiting for future apprentices I learnt that the business is not necessarily looking for the best candidate, instead is looking for people who are likely develop the most on the scheme and therefore go into roles across the business that they have gained lots of experience in.
