  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently i am in the security team for virgin media business. I currently deal business customers who require firewalls to be installed as part of their network, aswell as looking after customer that already have firewalls and require maintance on their firewalls. My job role is logical and does not require any physical work. We have a deticated team who deals with the physical end and then will pass teh batton on to us to finish of the logical build.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • in teh last 6 months i have picked many new skills in terms of networking and firewalls. i am always developing my writing skills which are poor but with consistant development i belive that i am improving my writing skills. Being part of this department i am always improving my technical abilities as no 2 days are the same and new types of issues will always arise forcing you to learn at a very steep rate.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme started of a bit rocky as this is a trail blazer programme however as time went on we started to get better. i have always been consistant and very adament in learning as much as i can and virgin media have been able to provide these oopertunities to me. It has been a enjoyable time so far.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • as a trail blazer, this apprenticeship was very unstructured not fairly organised. This being said virginmedia did not know how this woudl pan out as they had never attemed such a program before. As they learn and adapt and allow us to help lay the foundation blocks for teh future apprentices i belive that this can only get better.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I recive as much support as i require from my employer. they have never been one to disown or deny you an opertunity. They will help as much as they can to uplift you and make you better. My current manager has supported me and has given me guidence through this apprenticship and i hoestly belive without his help i would not be where i am today.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Studying with Aston university they are avaible to provide you support if and when required. they have a number of programs available to the students shoudl tehy reuire any help. I have given ooprunities and help with my studies and during exam to my nature of learning. They have been very supportive throughout however some modules are very unstructured and tutors are unable to speak english at a level that is required for us to be able to understand.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • on many occasions this my study's have coem in hand in hand with my work however my studys and my work have very minimal similarities. The logic of what i learn can be applyed to any job role but the technical aspect on many occasion does not apply to my current job. this does not go to say that these skills and knowledge will not coem in handy in not so distant future and will definately help build by carrer to amaizing heights

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The extra-curricular activities are doen at a local level, it is not somthing that the company activly promotes to my knoeledge. However recently they have been very actiev in placing a community for teh apprentices to get to gether and share thier knowledge and expiriences. they do hold occational event to share updtaes and have a fun time (normally an hour or so). also they hold competitions on teh intranet on a regular basis.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Virgin Media O2 to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • First and foremost Virgin Media is massive company and liberty global, which is its parent company, is even bigger. Which means that the doors to big oopertunities can be found, if you look in the right places. It is a place work where you can be your self and you are not forced to be sombody else, you tend to pick various different skills no matter what role you are in and you able to move up.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Virgin Media O2?
  • My main advice would be to be yourself, virginmedia likes honest hard working people. They rather have a geniune person that is able to learn and adapt to the virgin media way, than to have a fake person who is stuck in their ways. virgin media is a fun and enjoiable place, remember that in applying. Most of the jobs have informal interviews so dont be nervous and just be the very best you can. dont over do it ;)
