Spent time in a variety of different practice groups, completing research tasks, drafting documents such as letters and emails to clients, advising clients on fictional scenarios by researching relevant laws.
I have learnt how to draft legal documents and I have developed my written skills in relation to conversing professionally with clients. I have also developed my research skills and have improved my ability to locate revelant and useful information.
I have really enjoyed my programme as it has given me an insight into the structure of a big commercial firm and the range of work that is completed on a day to day basis in various different sectors. It has also signficantly increased my knowledge on areas of law that I was previously unfamiliar with.
I have felt valued by Pinsent Masons as all work that I have completed has been marked by supervisors and some has contributed to their work for the company.
The programme was extremely well structured, with an induction and lots of IT training. There was a talk each morning about different areas of law and the practice areas within the company that deal with it followed by a day in different practice groups where we were assigned a trainee. There was a range of work that was organised for us to complete.
Lots of support was recieved from supervisors, who regularly checked up on me and throughout the day took time to speak to me individually to explain tasks that I had been given to complete, as well as going through the work I had completed and providing feedback on what I had done.
There was support from the HR team who delivered a presentation on the first day and the IT training, and also provided us with numbers to call if we had any queries. Everyone within the departments were very friendly and happy to help if I had any problems.
N/A the work experience was unpaid.
There was not any opportunities outside of work during the week but it was made clear that we were welcome to attend events if anything was happening, such as sporting events.
Yes
It is an extremely well organised, well structured and enjoyable experience which gives a real insight into the structure and work undergone in a commercial law firm and gives you the chance to talk to trainee solicitors who gave a lot of helpful advice regarding placements and training contracts.
Take time when completing your application and think carefully about the answers you are putting. When you are here, make sure you take every opportunity to get involved in a range of tasks, and dont be afraid to ask any questions as everyone is happy to help.
