  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves aiding clients with their tax affairs through various tasks. I help with the preparation of tax returns, I do this by liasing with clients for their info as well as meeting with them. I also support in advisory matters which are more ad hoc. This involves technical aspects of the role.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of new skills and have also developed existing skills. I have done this through exams as well as on the job training. I have completed my certificate level exams which has given me a wide range of knowledge, and I learn on the job at work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the work that I do however I do find the role challenging in terms of the volume of exams and having to work 9-5.30 every day. I often have to study after work and there is little to none down time which is exhausting and takes its toll.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is well structured but not well organised. The programme is structed in a way as to get most of the exams done with in the first 18 months, which while will be good once this has finished, is very overwhelming while experiencing it. The structure is focussed on cramming.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from my employer in terms of study leave. I am given 2/3 days study leave per exam which is helpful as this allows me to have some time out of the office to consolidate and expand on my learning in preparation for the exams.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive little support from the training provider, they provide the materials however that is about it. They have an online chat service, however often the advisors just copy and paste from the study manual as the solution to your question when often the study manual is the thing that is confusing.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think the qualification definitely helps me to perform better in my role as the qualification allows me to develop my knowledge surrounding the technical aspects of my role. The qualifications however are not all relevant and so I would say about 50 % of the qualification helps me to perform better so far.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are lots of extra curricular activites at work, there are lots of social events that take place and there are monthly drinks at the end of each month. There are team socials, away days, sports teams and many other groups that go on. Most of these are extra curricular.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Deloitte because of the support I receive at work and because they are a good company to work for who take interest in your personal development. There are lots of opportunities to progress and to expand and constantly develop yourself and your knowledge, which is encouraged here.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • I would advise others to be themselves during the application process and also to prepare adequately. It is important to know exactly what you're applying for and what to expect from the company and understand what they expect of you. Ensuring you are a good fit benefits the firm and yourself.
