  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis we have to set up rigs ready for testing. This involves doing a lot of manual work to set the tests up to the correct specifications. Once we have set up the test the engineer will then fire the test and get the results.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Yes I do enjoy my programmer. However I would like to conteniue and then become an engineer. This is because they deal with a lot of the data and I enjoy the math side. They deal with figures and have to work on the patterns and trends which looks fun to do.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The first year I am full time at college. Then when college is on half term I go into plant. Then in the second year I am full time in plant but I then have one day a week at college. It is on the same day every week. Then the third is the same as the second and forth is fully time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We do receive support for our work based learning from work but the college side of things doesn't get looked at at work. For example we cant do assignments at work for college because they say this is for college rather than for work. Even through its part of your course.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Yes they help you with the assignment by giving you information and power points that you are able to use for the assignments themselves. As well as that they also allow spacing between the assignments given so that you dont just get given them all at once meaning the quality is laking.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Yes it gave me information I needed to perform better in my role. For example in fitting I learnt how to create different pieces of metal using different tools. In the workshop I also learnt how to mill and turn on the machines. This I can take into the workplace.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No there are not any social actives, sports teams or event professional networking events. There is a network Facebook page which was originally set up for the apprentices and the graduates so they could communicate between them self. But since then there has not been any platform as such in place.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it is a good company to work for where the staff get treated well. You also get paid a good amount. Other bonuses such as car schemes, pension and other events going on which would benefit both yourself and your family. It is a friendly environment and good to work for

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • I would give the advice of keep on trying to apply. There will be a lot of tests to be able to get in but they only want the best which is why they're so hard. So stick to it and make sure you put the work in with research as well .
