I sat in a different area of the firm each day and helped the trainee solicitors out with any tasks that I was able to complete.

I learnt new skills in regards to writing or drafting legal reports and documents. I also developed my skills of analyzing and deciphering important information form long winded reports to create short forms people without a huge legal knowledge would understand. Furthermore, I improved on my research skills.

the programme as a whole was thoroughly enjoyable. I found certain areas more enjoyable than others, however, this is inevitable in law. The areas which I found less interesting were still useful to experience, if only to help me decided later on in life where I would like to enter into if given the option.

Pinsent Masons make you feel very valued. The people there are incredibly friendly and try to include you in any tasks that you would be able to do. They also encourage you to take part in as much of the firms activities as you can. Furthermore, the trainee solicitors try to get to know you when you are in their department, as well as in their free time at lunch.

The programme is very well organized. You receive a timetable on your first day telling you which areas you are in for the res of the week and which trainee solicitor you are with. This could be improved, however if it was sent to you before coming to the firm as we were unsure of where we were going on the first day. It would also enable you to explore the areas that you are going to be in, if you so desired.

The trainee solicitors are very useful and try to support you whilst you are in their area of commercial law. They try to give you tasks that will interest you, and allow you to try and figure them out by yourself without being patronizing. I think this is a great quality of Pinsent Masons, as it gives you more of an idea of what trainee solicitors go through when they first get their training contract, meaning it prepares you more, It also enables you to explore the areas more whilst you are there. However, you know that if you do get stuck they will always help you out and point you in the right direction.

There is not any communication with the employer whilst actually on the programme. However, the information sent before coming to the firm was useful.

The work experience programme is not paid.

There seem to be many social events that occur at Pinsent Masons, which look to be amusing and with lots of involvement. Having only had work experience here for a week I did not get to participate in these, but if you get the opportunity I would recommend them form the pictures and reports form other people.

The firm has a very friendly work environment, which is something that can be daunting during work experience. It is also very valuable in helping you decide if this is the kind of career you would want to enter into.

The application process is quite long online, however, it is worth giving it a try. The experience is extremely useful and will look good on a CV or in your personal statement. The firm is also very friendly and people in it are approachable and helpful.
