  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am mainly involved in transactional work. So drafting and negotiation legal documents, liaising with client's and third parties, and managing my own caseload. I am also involved in dealing with ad-hoc queries from clients as well as some land registration tasks. I find my daily role interesting and challenging, which is a very good thing!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would say it is well organised. There's a clear progression structure set out from the beginning of the programme. There's a lot of support and development assistance available to all apprentices and there are regular review meetings with our line manager which occur on a monthly basis.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive. They are very committed to the apprenticeship and are always looking to gain us more exposure to various kinds of work/events. For example, there are training sessions with experienced lawyers twice a month as well as other training sessions that are firmwide. Some apprentices have been able to attend awards ceremonies and client events as well. My employer is also keen to support my mental health and ensure I am ok in work and outside of work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a good level of support from BPP. I know if I have any queries then I can direct them to my apprenticeship manager and/or subject lecturer if I need to do so. They also provide a good level of preparatory reading/lectures for me to watch to develop my knowledge.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel they are very helpful. The topics I have covered so far are relevant to my role and I have been able to tie in what I have learnt into my day-to-day role. For example, I use the knowledge I have gained in the land law and commercial property topics I learnt through the training provider in my daily role all the time.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are lots of things to get involved in. My firm runs cricket, football and netball teams as well as hosting a monthly drinks trolley, summer party and Christmas party. There are often drinks after work with colleagues and also there are also various ad-hoc events within different teams that are always fun!

  • 9a. Would you recommend Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The firm has a positive and supportive culture. I find I get on well with the vast majority, if not all, of my colleagues and everyone who works here are all very knowledgeable at what they do. There is also a lot of potential for career progression within the firm as well as working in different departments/areas of law.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner?
  • The best advice I can give is to be yourself, be confident and show you can bring something valuable or different to the firm. I would also say to do a bit of research around the firm and have a few facts you've found at hand. You can often find us in the legal press as we advise on a lot of high profile transactions, particularly in Real Estate!
