My job is to explore all the roles which contribute to the technical aspect of creating live news. This includes vision, cameras, sound, floor supervision, media management and technical resources. I am an operational role so i learn to use the equipment and i can then specialise in a chosen field towards the enc
I had previous texhnical theatre background so i had competency with similar equipment. This is however on a much larger scale with more complex skills needed. I have learnt of roles i previously did not know existed and begun go develop my skills and personality in order to be able to complete these jobs.
I enjoy my programme a lot as it is operations based as opposed to engineering or producing. I am a technical person and have great interest in technology as well as media. This is a real life industry extension of my previous experience in technical theatre and media studies which i developed in school
My programme is very well structured as it consists of college and work placement but mostly work placement. The college is broken up into nice chunks so as not to disrupt the workflow when at base. This gives a true feeling of working in the environment and you are able to make acquaintences easily
I receive regular updates and calls from both my placement and line manager and also my college advisor. This creates a very supported atmosphere for me to work and i feel very interconnected with the people that matter. If i have any issues i have no shame in contacting the person needed
I receive lots of support and regular meetings whether in person or via the internet. There is a good structure to the programme and i feel well informed and not overwhelmed with information even though it is a course with a lot of different aspects to be focused on individually
My qualification directly correlates to my ability to use technical equipmeng and also be aware of ever changing technologies and softwares. I am developing my intuitiveness and my abilities through college and it is assisting in my everyday role in which i encounter many forms of technology and equipment i did not previously know of
There are plenty of social and professilnal events available. There are regular evening meals parties and drinks. The building is host to many different clubs including but not limited to fitness clubs, language speaking, extra academic qualifications. There are regular big scale events and also charity contributions such as race for life.
Yes
The bbc is a special organisation which has made me feel welcomed. It is a perfect place to cultivate learning and creativity and there is a special atmosphere amongst the whole organisation. Everyone is friendly and approachable and there is no fear of making mistakes or errors as there is so much support
Learn to ask questions, sometimes it is best to ask a question you know the answer too as it shows you are interested and engaged. It can also lead to further conversation as they may develop their answer so do not assume everything is clean cut it is good to talk
