  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work as part of a project team to manage all company own use vehicles (OUV). This involves setting budgets for each of the markets as well as key functions to make sure they are falling in line with company policy. I have been dealing with a number of the markets to help with the global role out of our new vehicle management system as well as coordinating the annual stock take for accounting.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • To start with, you do 2 6 month placements before moving onto annual placements. Each cohort has an individual assigned to make sure you are receiving the support you require as well as having a supportive manager. In terms of courses and exams, you need to meet the company requirements but you can sit the courses in any order etc.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Each apprentice has support from the apprentice team as well as your line manager and colleagues. Other apprentices who have already carried out the role or sat the exam are more than happy to help out those who are struggling. The company fund all studies and courses which is a huge benefit!

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The tutors can provide you with an email address and they are more than happy to sit down with you after the course to run through any specific queries you may have. They provide online forums which you can post in if you require any other assistance with your studies.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As I am carrying out an accounting qualification, I find the qualification helps massively with working in the accounting function at Jaguar Land Rover. The qualification is theoretical but there are a large number of benefits that can be transferred between the two. I also find that my learning provider uses real life examples which can help to link the theory to my actual role at JLR.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of company events that happen within the finance function at Jaguar Land Rover. These include a sports day, Poker evening, Christmas Quiz and Christmas dinner. The apprentices however often organise social events every few months which are informally put together so we can enjoy a night out etc.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • As a very successful company, there are plenty of areas that you can get involved in as well as being given a great amount of responsibility within each of the functions. The combination of the great working experience as well as becoming highly qualified is why I would strongly recommend the apprentice scheme at JLR.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • Express you interest in the business and remain open minded in your application. The application process involves a number of online tests followed by an assessment center. Make sure you are committed to working and studdying at the same time as it can be very challenging for some and can cause a great deal of stress on oneself.
