  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as ASM is to ensure that all health and saftey aspects of day to day life are met, along with ensuring my team are aware of what needs to be done during the day asking them to conduct themselves accordingly with company guidlines. We work as a team to ensure customers needs are met and they have a smooth experience within our stores.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to run a small team of indaviduals in a sometimes extremley busy enviroment. Some of these indaviduals can be very out going but I now know how to deal with these indavidual personalities and use these to advatage of the company and how to get the best out of my team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying the programme so far as I have learnt that the things I previously found difficult are actually not. I know I have the support of indaviduals as and when I need that support I have never had this in any other previous training that I have done.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Extremley well structured, I can view what I need to be learning with a click of a button, I dont have to spend ages looking for things. There are plans my tutor has set out for me and they are done in a way where I can simply glance and immediatly know what it is I need to be doing.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • This has been a mixed bag, over thos period I have worked in 2 stores. I have great support from some members of the team and then I have no support from others. I generally end up speaking to the same people to get any support at all. I do understand that there work gets in the way sometimes too but would be great to be able to narrow down just 10/15 minutes of time to work on my programme with them.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have alot of support with this, just a simple text/email/call and I can garuntee my tutor will be intouch as soon as possible. Even with my nerves and my uncertintey I have been lucky enough to get absolutley great support. I just hope (I know it will) that this will continue.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Almost instantaniously I have learnt things that I never knew I kew. I have been able to put these in to practise immediatly within my work enviroment so for me the course is already exttermely benificial to me and would 100% recommend any one who has the chance at an apprentership to absolutley go for it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Unfortunetly for myself (not all stores) there is nothing like this though we do tend to meet up once a month or so to go for a meal and some drinks to talk about life outside of work. I know of other stores where they meet up to play badminton or football so I know there are oppurtunites to arrange things like this.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Screwfix to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I started working with Screwfix a little over 3 years ago, I can honestly say I have never worked for a company like this. They have a great work ethic and the progression oppurtunites are like no where I have worked before. I have't actually stayed with a company as long as I have Screwfix and plan on staying a whole lot longer.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Screwfix?
  • Just go in to your interview and be truthful and honest, express your interest to grow within the company as these oppurtunities arise so often that you will progress if you really show willing to learn. Every store you go to will have somebody training to be some sort of manegemnet I have no doubt about that.
