  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am very involved and assist the Assistant Relationship Managers and Relationship Managers with the day-to-day job. This can range from customer enquires, complaints to liaising with other teams. Every day comes with new challenges and opportunities and no two days are the same.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new personal and professional skills. From communicating more effectively to learning new systems and processes. I have gained a qualification in sales excellence and i am also working towards a professional banking qualification. There is quarterly mandatory group learning modules bank wide and learning and development is highly encouraged and supported.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy the work and the team i am in. I am very lucky in the sense that i have a very supportive manager, this has led to opportunities in networking, champion roles within my team and department and being part of the well being agenda. I also have been very supported and i am surrounded by a supportive and welcoming culture. It exceeded my expectations and i come into work looking forward to the day ahead.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There are two parts, My day-to-day role with RBS and the studying element for the apprenticeship qualification with BPP. I have found that the apprenticeship qualification has been a stressful point for me. There seems to be a lack of clarity and organisation and it has not been very clear overall. The induction covered the programme in around 30 minutes to an hour and the rest of the full day concentrated on handling yourself at work - How to dress, eye contact, handshake etc. There was not enough time dedicated to covering it all and there have been many frustrating technical issues which are yet to be fully resolved. I do have regular meetings and have finally got an assessor for assistance and support. This is meant to be assigned when the apprenticeship studying starts however i was not assigned one at this time. There was a delay and an oversight in this also and had i not brought this up it would have gone unnoticed. Since this has been resolved she has been reachable and very friendly. I get a prompt response when i have gotten in touch with her. These issues lie more with BPP rather than my day-to-day role at RBS. But overall the work is manageable and i get appropriate time allocated to studying.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer. I have regular meetings to see where i am. My manager is always signposting and pointing me in the right direction of things that will help my development and ensure i am doing well. I have found my employer to be very supportive and accommodating and gives great guidance whenever i have had any problems.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Its very cluttered and disorganized, Bpp have had issues from the very beginning 7 months in and theres still problems not yet been rectified. Theres definitely alot of frustrations but the materials are very informative and if you can work through the problems theres a lot of good materials for a good foundation there. There are regular meetings, face to face and over the telephone. There just hasn't been enough support rectifying the mistakes for me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It provides a great foundation. Lots of basic knowledge which it then builds on. I am definitely building a strong skillset and it has greatly helped me in developing in my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Theres definitely alot of extra-curricular activites. Lots of professional networking events. I have organised a team volunteering session and i am part of many extra well being groups as well as a champion for a few adgendas also. There's a lot to get involved in above the day job and its entirely upto each individual how involved they would like to be. RBS also has a few networks to connect like minded people too such as aspire and the multicultural network and the LGBT network

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I love my job at RBS. I feel supported and encouraged to be the very best. There's a big emphasis on personal development and growing yourself and i couldn't have chosen a better place to begin my career.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • Do apply, it is a great place to work. It is a very supportive environment. Organise your time effectively and don't forget about your personal brand. Being authentic is key.
