1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
my role includes engaging with customers wether it be on the till or answering the phone to our home delivery customers, I also manage the team on a day to day basis, I open the store some mornings and I cashup after ive shut the store on most nights. I do stock replenishment as well as delegating to my team.
2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
ive learnt a new skill such as using different theories to manage my team. I can use the belbins theory, I have a good understanding of smart tasks and what and what not to do. Ive developed more of the management side of things such as delegation or managing my team and different ways to do so.
3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I enjoyed the program it may not be for some people but for people like myself it was a good experience and was happy to be a part of it, I am also grateful towards lifetime for the opportunity to go thru this course and help me to better myself in life.
4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
the program is fairly well organised/structured. There is a website you can log into to see everything that you need to do so that you don't get confused and your trainer will also let you know what you need to have done before the next visit so that you don't end up falling behind.
5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
I receive a lot of support from my employer. I am really grateful towards him because I would not have been able to get as far as I have if it wasn't for him helping me thruout the programme. anything that I needed or asked for or needed an opinion on that I wasn't sure of he was there for me.
6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
my training provider gave me all the support I needed and more. she would check in on me from time to time to see wether or not im keeping up with my work. if I was behind or I wasn't sure of anything she would always be happy to give me a hand.
7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
I feel confident that it will help me perform better in my role as a supervisor. it has shown me how to manage my team in multiple ways and what to do in certain situations. it has also taught me a lot about the financial and legal side of the retail world.
8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
we haven't got a lot of extra curricular activities at work. we do have some social activities that we participate in like going out for a team build or something along those lines. we have a charity event coming up and we are going to be playing football against other stores so looking forward to that.
9a. Would you recommend Iceland to a friend?
because I think that Iceland is a really good place to work especially after you compare us to a lot of other retail businesses. Iceland has a decent wage for both delivery drivers as well as frontline colleagues. there is also room for improving yourself and going forward and making a career out of it like I have done so myself.
10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
if I were to give advice to somebody applying for an Iceland position it would probably be to go in there and just be yourself because if you try to be someone you aren't then you will not like what you are doing you also need to be able to be good with customers because that's the most important thing in the business are our customers
