  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'm a customer service advisor on the careplan department of Team Knowhow. I am involved in cancelling, renewing and amending customer agreements at the request of customers. This is all done over the phone. On a day to day basis I take calls from a variety of customers to assist with queries regarding their cover agreements

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I did quite enjoy the apprenticeship program and the variety of activities the scheme used in training, ranging from being a secret shopper to group work in a classroom it offered plenty of variety and kept me engaged throughout the course of the year. Also Lions Lair (a Dragons Den like project we did as apprentices) was thoroughly enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was quite well structured, we were aware of time scales for work completion and if we were unable to attend a session with the training provider they were helpful in arranging for another date to attend. The company was also great at complying with this and would arrange for these to be completed within work hours.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider was helpful in providing support in the classroom and outside of it, I knew that if I had any issues I could call or text my tutor for assistance. They were also attentive during lessons and quick to answer any questions I, or any other member of the group, had

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training offered by my training provider did offer some base level understanding of my job role, however due to the nature of the job I learnt much more from working then I did from my training provider and most of the performance in my job comes from experience and training provided by the company rather than the training provider

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are some activities work offers. There is a contact centre football team which competes in a league and we do arrange team days and nights out as well as occasional nights out for the hole department and an annual Christmas party. There are also many charity events that are done ranging from penalty shoot-outs to throwing sponges at a manager

  • 9a. Would you recommend Dixons Carphone to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • My time at dixons carphone has really helped me grow as a person, boosting my confidence and interpersonal skills. The people that work here and the managers make me feel welcome and like part of a team. Also once the apprenticeship is completed it is a fairly well paying entry level job, which are hard to come across

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dixons Carphone?
  • I would advise them to be confident in themselves and their abilities as well as be open to feedback and criticism. The most important thing really is to be open to learning to think about things in different ways and from a different point of view as this helps a lot in this job
