  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role has a repair gas apprentice is to maintain the gas network between the working pressures of low and medium pressure. We work in a variety of areas, whether its roads, footways or on the private and this is to repair or place gas services and mains. Our job role also contains a lot of speaking to customers as well as working with a wide range of people from all different backgrounds.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I Have learnt many new skills, mostly to do with the job in hand, as well as improved of existing skills for working with a wide range of people from all backgrounds and ages. A new skill I have learned from working with cadent is talking to customers and people I haven't met before as well as being confident when trying to get my point across about how to do something or talking about what is going to happen.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much enjoy the program as we tend to work in a different place everyday and no job is that same as the last so it always keeps you thinking, as well as the training being run well and you're always looked after. Also after taking a gap year before coming to work for cadent it is nice to me constantly doing something and to have a purpose.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program on the whole is organized very well, however structure wise I would like for the training to be in a bulk at the start instead of it being spread out over the year. But the organization is very good and you always know what's happening with the program.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As an apprentice I receive a lot of support from my employer whether its out on patch or from the managers running the training program. If I ever have an issue or need some help I always have someone to go to speak to and any question you have is always answered.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training provider with regular training sessions put on which are kept up to date and relevant. I am also put with a team out on patch that will provide me with the best training and keep me involved with the job so that I learn the most I can

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training provided to us in the training center is good, however with our job every job is different so sometimes its hard to use what you've seen in the training center out on the job. On the other hand what training we get does give you a good base layer of knowledge which you can use to help progress and perform better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • That I'm aware of there aren't many extra-curricular activities to get involved with. However there has been occasions where people that I work with out on the patch meet up on the weekend for a drink for example at Christmas. There are networking events that we are invited to show people what its like working as an apprentice for cadent by going to schools.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Cadent Gas to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend working at cadent because on the whole the company looks after you. If you have a question there is always someone to speak to and you aren't thrown out into the wild to defend for yourself. There is constant training which helps you a lot, as well as meetings every couple months to keep track of how you are doing.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cadent Gas?
  • One tip I would give is be yourself and to research the job you're going into so that if you are successful at getting the job you actually enjoy it. Another piece of advise I would give to people applying to cadent gas is be confident and although the application may seem long it'll be worth it.
