  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Dealing with Small Business Customers ranging from start-up businesses to Switchers, who are looking for anything from Basic Banking Needs, right up to Small Business Lending (overdrafts, credit cards, loans, etc) and generally establishing a good working relationship between HSBC and the small business community in the area. I find the role exciting and stimulating!

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have certainly learnt a great deal about Business Banking, having worked on Personal Banking and with Debt Management and Complaints Handling in the Financial sector in the past. I've also learnt the process of dealing with face-to-face customers and interactions too. I've also learnt the intricacies of working within a Bank and dealing with other branch staff in a busy environment.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It provides a different challenge for me daily, getting to truly understand the customers I deal with and the sector that I am a part of. The programme so far has been incredible, and I'm so glad I made the desicion to join HSBC as an Apprentice: without this, I really don't know where my career outside of HSBC would be taking me.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised and clear as day as to what to expect and when it is expected by. There are workshops, meetings, and face-to-face reviews conducted regularly concerning the programme and my progress within it, and there is the feeling that everyone you interact with is genuinely listening to wha you have to say

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support has been amazing! I really feel valued and respected for my opinion and my work, and this shows in my one-to-ones with my manager. Some of the training involved has felt a little bit staggered, however this has apparently been streamlined recently, which will be interesting to see in operation.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We are due to start working towards the qualifications soon enough, so we shall find out. Upon receipt of the coursework, the book, and with continued guidance and support, I feel that the training involved with the LIBF qualification will be well rounded, informative, and will lead to great and bright things in the future.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualificiation will certainly be the icing on top of the cake as far as my role, and future career are concerned. The sky is the limit in Business Banking, it would seem, and there is the scope to branch off into various different fields and areas within: I'm really eager to see where this journey goes.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are activites and events organised regularly, which is fantastic. There is also a great support network amongst the Business Specialists in the area, and when we get together on a monthly basis for catch ups, the mood is that of joy and happiness. I couldn't say anything bad about the experiece here.

  • 9a. Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Their work ethic and their philosophy of respecting and understanding people's individual needs and abilities is second to none. Anyone who wants to come work for such an organisation should feel like the are not just another number, or a statistic to be reviewed and categorised, but feel like an integral piece of the overall puzzle that is Business Banking

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • Be confident and ask plenty of questions along the way! Don't be afraid if it seems daunting when you are discusssing the needs and requirements of Business Banking: it was daunting to me in the first instance, but I'm so glad I went in with the confidence I presented
