  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Read any received email first thing in the morning. Gather what sort of issue may have arisen from the last day of work, if none I focus on the current project I am working on at the moment. I set a goal for the day on what needs to be done and make a plan on how I intend to get it done.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy work with my colleagues, as they are a fun and relaxed team to work with. The general working atmosphere on the job is quite relaxing and not stressful, which is the main reason for my motivation to continue working here,as I came from a complete opposite environment.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I was very dissapointed with the whole programm. If somene starts in the new business and has his first course 3 months after he/she started and then learns the structure of the business, methodologies or things like "What is an KPI definition", it's not good. Also after 12months in, I was learning basic HTML and CSS on my last course, but I already developed a website for my company from scratch by that time. And the fact that I changed 3 mentors during my apprenticeship didn't actually help either. I believe the apprenticeship for software developer needs to be either shorter or backed up with more money, the courses NEED to be EVERY MONTH for at least 2-3 working days, otherwise this doesn't make any sense.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer was very supporting in any issues or questions I had during the last 15 months or so. My working mentor was also great and has taught me a lot of stuff, although I would wish he wasn't so busy all the time and spent more time collaborating with me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Training provider was always supporting, their information was always very clear and explained in enough detail. The acomodation and food during courses was great, their guidance and attitude very friendly. I can't say I had any issues regarding that and I have enjoyed most of my course days at firebrand.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The most valuable stuff I learnt on firebrand courses were methodologies used in development, how the business generally works in enterprise companies, although I don't have a structure like that in my small telecoms company. As for the coding stuff, I have learnt most or at least 70% of the stuff before my actual courses, on the job or training at home before I even started this.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My company organizes occasional staff team building in near by areas, it's a good way to get to know each other better and we also finish a bit early on Fridays, to have a drink or two before going home. Outside work, I exercise a litlle, but trying to do it everyday and I play video games. (I know: not healthy at all :))
