  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role varies as we can be placed on multiple projects all with different opportunities. The typical day to day may include travelling to client site to complete your responsibilities there. In terms of my role, I am part of the Automation team yet have done roles outside of Automation so I am able to benefit and expand my skill set. Daily interactions will include meetings with clients and internal IBM team as well as completing tasks for the project you are assigned for (which could be anything as your role varies)

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills through my time here as the training courses are endless. I have learnt things from Agile methodology to using specific automation software, even though I am a Business Process Analyst. I have also benefited in Personal and Professional skills as I have been able to develop myself as an individual in areas such as Networking etc. My roles have also taught me many things such as using Business-specific software and also just learning about the client overall from the inside.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme and the company that I am part of. The work is something I've always wanted to do and have been able to try. The team(s) are always welcoming, helpful and also sociable with the events/socials we go on. The company culture overall is welcoming for all people and there to support you in your growth through the company.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe the programme is well structured with the Learners plan we have detailing each of the courses we have to complete before our apprenticeship as well as the 2-month meetings we have to catch up on our apprenticeship with other fellow apprentices and also get any updates from our managers. There are various key activities planned out throughout our 3 year plan such as 2 1/2 week induction at start as well as various courses to go to and evidence to create. Overall it's well panned out

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive great support from my employer whether that be from my Manager, my Division lead/team members, or even the apprentice community overall. The support there is vast and guidance is available when we need it. They will actively help us out as they want us to go into the company as experienced individuals.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive great support from the training provider as it is IBM themselves so they have all the courses they lead and create from the ground up as well as having connections with external trainers in providing worthwhile learning opportunities. IBM's attitude towards supporting us is positive as they want us to complete our apprenticeship successfully and develop as an individual overall.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification adds onto my performance n my role as some training course we have to do (or take on ourselves) is there to make us understand our roles better or give us more in depth knowledge. I have put areas such as Automation training into practice and it has helped me a lot. I feel that after completing my qualification, I will know a lot more about my role in the company and the industry overall with all the knowledge I've taken in.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are numerous social activities to take part in such as events, socials etc. There are multiple communities within IBM that hold various activities to take part in so the opportunities are there. There are also various sports opportunities such as Ski trips etc. These opportunities are always broadcasted throughout the company in various forms so there is no chance to miss them and every opportunity to enjoy yourself.

  • 9a. Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend IBM to a friend as it is a worthwhile opportunity not to miss. The chance to develop and grow as an individual and professional is limitless and the work/life balance is great and valued throughout the company. Working with IBM has benefited me and I believe it will benefit others as well whether they come in as Apprentices or even Graduates.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
  • The tips I can give to anyone applying for IBM is to do your research. Know about the company you are applying for and also look into any tips/insights such as this given by apprentices. Also, in areas such as interviews and assessment centres, be yourself. IBM want to hire you and not a persona you put on so be yourself and any experiences you bring that matches the competencies (work or others such as enrichment) will be taken into account so be proud of it.
