  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My Role involved the day to day support of the operational side of IT within the business. I work in a role where I am responsible for 1st and 2nd line tickets. We support all of our internal users across multiple offices in the UK and Eruope. I am also given projects to work on as part of my Apprenticeship which are outside of the scope of my normal day to day duties.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned many new IT skills since starting my role. Below is an example of something I have learned: I have been learning more about about the uses and benefits of Group Policies. I have spent some time shadowing our 3rd line infrastructure team to help me understand how GPO's are created and deployed. I have also been given some time to create my own GPO's and Security Groups - Create the links and use a test account to ensure they are working. I have also gained 4 Qualifications since starting my course including some Recognised Microsoft Qualifications.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that the Programme is organised well, however I could definitley see some room for improvement here. Especially in the way that the course is Targeted. I think that it could be better tailored depending on the level of skill / professionalism the person has who is starting the course. That being said, I have had a very structured course so far with weekly and monthly reviews with both my Training provider and internally.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The Support I have recieved from my manager and the company is great and is exactly what i'd expect from a company of this size. I am given the time I need to research and learn for my course and am also given the technical support I need from my manager and my peers. I have never felt like I'm unable to approach someone for help and this has made my overall experience much better.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have so far received plenty of help when preparing for any exams / qualifcations. Courseware and reading materials are sent out prior to the Classroom training we attend, which gives us enough time to prepare. We also have a login provided for online training videos wich is my personal preference for learning as I find it much more enjoyable and accessible.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are multiple activities and events the company arranges that can be attended. I have also started to arrange a weekly football game at the local sports centre. Every week I make a booking and Email out internally to get people involved in a game. I currently have a group of about 30 people interested.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Firebrand to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Firebrand have given me the opportunity to gain valueable skills and qualifications whilst allowing me to work in an environment where I can use the skills I am learning on a daily Basis. My experience of the onsite training provided has also been very positive so far with knowledgable trainers, who have helped me pass all of my Exams.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Firebrand?
  • My only advice would be to ensure you pick a course that will help you with your day to day job and ensure that the exams that you do in your course are relevant to what you are doing and what you want to do going forward. It is also important to make sure your employer gives you all of the time you require to finish your projects and prepare for your exams as there is alot to it.
