  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My Role as a HR Apprentice involves a variety of tasks and responsibilities, these often include; Note taking, Administration tasks, Managing timecards and schedules for site employees, Recruitment, and Raising purchase orders. My day often begins by managing my emails and handling requests, then once my responsibilities are handled assisting my team with various tasks depending on what our focus is at that point.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Through this role I have both built on, and improved existing skills I had, and learned new ones. This is something that I expect to continue throughout this apprenticeship. Specifically liaising and organizing events, meetings and inductions, note taking in meetings, and managing new systems I previously had no experience of.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy being a HR apprenticeship a great deal, this is because it is currently helping me grow as an individual and build on my personal strengths, allowing me to create a foundation to build my career on. The HR role suits me as there is often a diverse workload meaning tasks are often refreshing and not monotonous.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program has been structured to allow me to complete tasks at work to assist the team and also to learn key information and skills I will need for the future through my portfolio work. the information gained from my apprenticeship learning can then be directly applied allowing me to see the benefits.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer and fellow colleges support me throughout my learning and personally this is invaluable to me, having peers to be able to speak to and learn from greatly assists my style of learning and often helps me to complete tasks I would otherwise struggle with, help is always easily obtained and time is set aside for me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training providers regularly provides me scheduled work to complete, assisting me when requested and providing me feedback to be able to improve my work. My training provider is easily contactable and makes sure they are available when I need them, responses are always prompt and allow me to make amendments.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification I will gain through my training provider will help me perform to a high standard in my role as it will helps me in having a fountain of knowledge that is up to date and accurate that I can rely on to resolve query's myself or assist my colleagues.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My employer has organized meeting to allow me and the other apprentices on site to meet and get to know each other, this has allowed us to build friendships and relationships, it has also allowed us to plan for extra curricular activities in the future such as paintballing and go-karting.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • My experience so far has been extremely pleasant, Cummins is a friendly, safe and happy place to work and I would like to see myself working here in the future. So far I have been given respect and looked after, entering a friendly and welcoming environment can only help you to settle in.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
  • My advice would be to prepare as best you can and do not necessarily give up if you are unsuccessful, from my personal experience I was not successful the first time round, I used that experience years later to try again and so far it has been an excellent experience for myself and worth the wait.
