  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently taking part in a project taking customer financial and strategical data to compose a report which not only summarises this information, but points out key trends that are noticeable amongst the customers. This mainly involves creating many graphs and then using them to write up sections of a report, which summarise the found trends.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot and developed a lot both on the job and in my spare time. On the job, using programmes such as excel and word more have allowed me to become more accustom to the software. I have also learnt personable skills, through presenting my findings to others in the team. Off the job I have used the online learning portal to develop some subject-specific knowledge.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • At the beginning, the Apprenticeship had been rough, with no clear direction and a lack of involvement in the workplace tasks. However, my complaints were responded to rapidly and I have now seen vast improvements in the workplace. There are still a few questions over the structure of my course, but it is - on the whole - enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My Apprenticeship does not seem to be as structured as those of the other Apprentices, but I have brought this up with HR and they have been working on adding some structure to my programme - not just for me, but for Apprentices who follow me. It is still improving day-on-day, but as of right now there is still a little confusion over the structure of my programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A plethora of support options are offered, so even in such a big company such as BT, I never feel lost or alone. There is always someone to go to with queries and questions, where they are always kind and welcoming and aim to sort everything out as quickly as possible.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Support is on-hand whenever I need it, where I can contact my training provider with any questions with regards to work towards qualifications and they will actively try to amend the issues I have. They are also always checking to see whether I am struggling or not, or how I am finding the qualifications, just to check that everything is going smoothly.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • There is not much relevance in the qualification I'm studying in the workplace. The only thing that is relevant is that I am learning how the leading product for my company works, which I can use in the workplace through developing my understanding of the business. Mostly though, the things that I'm learning in my qualification does not relate to my work tasks.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • A few social events are organised, but it is mainly dependant on your team. I have a very small team so social events are less frequent. There are also occasional Apprentice/Graduate social events, but again, these are not too common. As for other extra-curricular activities, there is not much more on offer that I am aware of.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend it to a friend if they are certain this is the career path that they want to go down. As far as employers go, you can't get much better than BT. They offer a vast amount of support, development opportunities and career opportunities in general, so that you feel there's so much possibilities for your career when you're working in BT.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Make sure that you choose the course that is right for you. This is important as it will ensure you remain driven and optimistic about your career, because that will allow you to present yourself in a positive manner, which will be very beneficial to how far and fast you succeed in BT. Most importantly, just be yourself, because BT are very focused on hiring the best people. Show them that you are the best person for them to take on.
