  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The majority of my daily work involves liaising with clients regarding any tax questions that they have. In addition, I have monthly deadlines that I must comply with, hence I also spend a lot of time preparing information ready for this to remain compliant with the deadlines. I have started training members of my team on the work I do in order for the team to be as flexible as possible.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • This role requires me to deal with the large amounts of data we have by continuing to create and develop spreadsheets. This in turn streamlines the processes we have in place and hence leads to greater efficiency. I have slowly learnt to build macros to integrate in these spreadsheets, something which I have not had experience of prior to this role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured. My team and management are very understanding with the study days as well as exam leave with giving me as much time off as I need subject to the business requirements. The courses themselves are extremely well planned as they provide us with the perfect amount of detail and questions to give us the best opportunity to pass my exams.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My team are very supportive of me during my studies. Many of my team have been through the same process as me before and therefore are extremely understanding of the stress of working and revising at the same time. They are very accommodating in the study days provided as well as moving my work around should I need more study days.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is plenty of support from Tolleys. As well as the taught course provided, they give us lots of past papers as well as practice questions that they have created to give us the best opportunity of passing our exams. The online portal is easy to navigate and has a Q&A feature to ask any questions about the past papers or any questions that we may have.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My programme has given me the chance to develop my technical skills alongside my work. Having never had prior exposure to tax before taking up the role, the programme has given me a breadth of knowledge and the most common scenarios to take note of. Consequently, these appear to be 90% of most queries, now of which I feel confident enough to answer in a clear and efficient manner.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many extra curricular activities for us to attend at work. Once a year, we are given the opportunity to help at the Milton Keynes college to help student with their interview and CV skills. There is also a yearly football tour to Prague which is very generously part subsidised by the firm.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Deloitte has an incredible ethos in that the company really cares about their employees. Little things such as being able to take a year off and come back to the same job, being able to work from home, shows just how much Deloitte recognises that its employees have a life outside of work. Add this to the fact of the many social events, such as the Annual Ball, show just how much Deloitte really care.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Dont be afraid to express yourself. Demonstate that you are constantly on the look out to improve process and prove that you were instrumental in those changes. As technology is ever changing, prove that you can adapt to these changes as well as demonstrating that you are a team player. Most of all, just be yourself!
