Small everyday jobs keeping pub clean, refilling pots and cleaning bar, serving food to customers, serving drinks to customers. Welcoming customers, cleaning tables and resetting them. Using tills, sometimes pot wash. Expo with food, dealing with complaints and issues. Organising allocation for staff. Reserving tables and organising seating for customers
When I first started at the pub I had no previous experience of working in a pub or food hospitality industry. I learnt everything from how to carry trays, the standard they expect for the tables to how to use the tills, what to offer customers whilst serving them. How to greet them, how to allocate seating and reservations and how to expo the food
I’m enjoying the programme because it’s enhancing everything I have learnt. I was nervous before I knew and didn’t think I was capable, but with help and guidance I then felt secure. With this apprenticeship I know feel I’m excellent at what I do and that I give the best of what I can and feel confident I have the knowledge needed
The programme is very organised and structured especially as it works well around my job and home life with the children. I know what to do and when and if I’m ever stuck there are systems in place to guide me online or with my personal trainer on the phone
i Have had mixed support from my employer. The management has changed a lot and at first it was very difficult to be allowed the time to complete what I needed too with the visits, but the recent managers have been very supportive and haven’t made it difficult to organise the meetings
My training provider Dee Moon has been amazing with the support I have received. At first I was like a rabbit in headlights but she quickly assured me and guided me through the process. Whenever I have a problem she is at the end of the phone or email and has no qualms about helping me even with what sometimes seems are stupid questions
I feel that it will put practical and theory together to give me more confidence in my role. I will then in the future be able to progress onto a better role ie supervisor and potentially train in that role to. In the future I plan to become a manager
No there currently isn’t extra curricular activities. We have training meetings when you are assistant manager or general manager. I feel the company would benefit from having extra curricular activities like days out or a rugby team etc that would enhance our team spirit and encourage the work effort
Yes
I have come from a job before where I was bullied by the boss and have to leave. I had severe depression when I came to this job. Now I feel happy within my job, I have confidence again. I feel that when there is a problem it is resolved quickly with wages hours etc
Go for it! They are a good company to work for, you can use things like apprenticeships to progress and there are lots of benefits within the company. They are big on team effort and our motto is one team one family and that definitely comes across. It is like a second family
