  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a network apprentice I am treated just like any other full team member with a responsibilities just like anyone else. Along with full time employment, I go to university once or twice a week. Day to day whilst in the office I do whatever task I have been set.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Within the apprenticeship it is important to develop your soft skills as well ad technical abilities. Learning how to communicate to other people young and old who aren't necessarily within your normal friendship remit is an important skill to learn. Technical skills learnt are vast in the world of networking, from actual physical handling of the devices to CLI work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy this apprenticeship, it is varied and there is so much to learn whilst on the job. University side is difficult for me as I did not come from a networking or computer background however feel that on the job learning benefits tremendously. Couldn't recommend it more

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It has its up and downs, as my apprentice year is the first of the 4 year degree program, we're kind of the guinea pigs for future years. With regards to support, there is a dedicated team on hand to offer advice or help within your apprenticeship years and after.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Depends on what team you're in as to how much support you can get from your employer during your apprenticeship. Some understand that university is a massive part of your degree so can help with letting you catch up on work. However some think that work should come first and out ways university

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is a dedicated team within the apprenticeship program which offers advice. anything to do with university, life or work they're there to help and guide as much as possible. on the degree apprenticeship however no support is given, which can be a struggle as there is no one to lean on

    6/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has given me the technical knowledge to therefore apply to my role within the daily team at BT. As I learn whilst on the job at BT it is difficult to find time to properly learn something like a certain protocol. This is at University where I learn about this.

    7/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Within BT everyone is given 3 days to complete and be used with volunteering hours. However as an apprentice it is more often than not you're given a few more as there is loads of stuff that they need apprentice's for, such as open days and events surrounding the apprenticeship

    9/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Be yourself and be true to who you are. the people interviewing you are real people also, don't worry that you don't know everything because that it was the apprenticeship is for, learning from scratch and learning something new which you can apply to your role and future within the company
