  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Visual Basic for Applications - This is a programming feature designed by Microsoft for use with their Microsoft Office software package. Specifically, it was designed for primary usage with Excel and allows for automation of work processes making seemingly large tasks miniature. Microsoft 365 - Learning how to change the way teams work using multiple 365 applications First Aid - Developing my skills as a first aider by becoming one of the designated FA's in the building. Management Skills - I am developing my managerial skills with the help of my manager as I am wanting to progress once my apprenticeship finishes. My manager is very helpful and helps me with this development.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my current apprenticeship programme as it allow me to continuously develop myself, but also allows me to impart my own knowledge onto current full time workers. Doing so allows for a great working environment where everyone is appreciated and no one feels undervalued which can sometimes happen when you have the title of apprentice.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure itself is very well organised. You start the programme with a 3 day induction where you meet your managers and other fellow apprentices. After this you will start working in the office shadowing current full time employees while also attending your college and self study days. Once all of your college work is complete and you have passed your exams, you can then assimilate from an apprentice to a full time employee.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a very large amount of support from my employer. As mentioned in my previous answers, my line manager is very supportive of helping me to become a manager myself and BT as a whole help you out with the wider scope of things such as college. For such things they have an entire apprentice development team set up in each region to help with the development and support for apprentices.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Overall, I haven't personally had too much interaction with my training provider. The tutors I had when working towards my qualification were hired by BT and my apprentice coaches also work with BT. The team BT have formed are fantastic and helped me gain my qualifications, however with zero interaction with the training provider (unless this is BT), I cannot say.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification I received for my role didn't really help me to much. The qualification feels like it should have been a field engineers qualification however some of the knowledge from the course has been handy every now and again. In the future, I hope BT will add more computer technical skills into the course as I am office based this would be more beneficial.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are frequent Social events at my work which I try to attend. These can range from a congratulations from the financial team to the works Christmas event. As an apprentice I am afforded more time to go to professional networking events, where I am alongside the seniors within the company.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • BT as a whole feels like a family, it is an excellent working environment with very competitive salary. The company is constantly moving forward and evolving with the industry which is something I personally very much like. With this in mind I find the managers very welcoming and friendly and is a very important factor for me when recommending to a friend.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • When applying for BT, be prepared for a detailed, long and scrutionous process from applying for the job and getting the job. One thing I really like about BT is the amount of time and detail they go into when taking on new employee's to ensure that they have a character and skillset which befits the company.
