Trainee Enginner Review

The jobs involves maintaining the communication network. To provide internet and telephone lines to the customer. Jobs are generated on the Phone and we attend our first appointment at 8am. Jobs are completed on the Network. This could be at the Exchange, PCP or the customers property. We keep in contact with Control through out the day and managers are also available, just a phone call away.

Lots of training is available, We have first class training facilities all over the country. Transport and accommodation is provided. Also uniform and all the tools required to carry out the work. Health and safety is also taken very seriously, and are trained to work safely from day one. Examples of skill learnt road guarding, test the network, frame jumpering and pole testing.

Lots going on. It is a big company and there are lots of new engineers starting like myself. This is good as it means there are lots of coaches, buddies and senior engineers that can be called upon to help with tasks. Each day is totally different and the jobs and vary massively, can be little overwhelming at times but overall the programme is very enjoyable.

We have a day off to attend our classes and also time to do our assignments. The days are will structured with clear modules and work that needs to be done. However the on the job training I feel is not that long, more time buddying and doing ride alongs with engineers would be better.

Support is fantastic, they can be contacted at any time. the support network is always there and engineers are always happy to help. I had to book leave due to family commitments, The manager was very supportive. There is also a service called coach on demand. Which I use a lot and is very helpful. In addition if you are a Armed Forces Reservist, they support you and book time of work to attend.

We get a study day once a month provided by our NVQ teacher. Support is provided at all levels. The modules are laid out logically and the instructions clear. It also helps as we get a login access to useful resources. We also get provided a Laptop to carry out our qualification. Photos are also important part as they are needed as evidence.

All training is given to help preform the role effectively. Some of the qualifications are transferable. There are many ways to do a task and different engineers have different ways. The training means that I can perform better. The training also allows me to work safely and effectively to become a better engineer

Not that many to be honest, during training we had time to socialise. However day to day involves working on your own. There however are rare opportunities to attend presentations, question and answer sessions and networking events with out current teams. There is also 2 volunteering days that's can be used to help a charity in your local area.

Overall a fantastic company to work for. The skills and qualifications gained are really good. You get to manage your day. Support is available and all uniform, tools and Vehicle is provided and also because it is such a large company there are many opportunities to further your career. Would recommend.

Research the company before hand. Check the website and give as much information about the company and job role. Be smart and confidence. Also show your willingness to learn. Even if you do not have a engineering background if you show you are a quick learner and can apply yourself this is the perfect job for you.
