Signalling and Design Engineering Review

I'm a Design and Signalling Apprentice for Siemens Rail Automation LTD. My Current day to day involves going to college Full time from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Completing my NVG level 2 in Engineering and BTEC level 3, operations and Maintenance. This is because I'm still in my first year, From my second day I will be going on day release to college and four days to work.

Yes I have learnt a lot of new skills In the course of my time in college. Like how to perform different Engineering operations. How to using the Lathe, Mill, Pillar drills, Heat treatments. Basic Electrical installations, Electronics, Soldering etc. There are lots of valuable skills I have acquired over the months.

I quite enjoy my programme at the moment. Although it is just full time in college for the first year. I still get to see my manager once in a while when he comes to do our reviews in college. It has been a totally joyful experience for me till date.

My programme is well organised. I get booked into activities and training courses and I'm informed before hand whenever this is done. I know what I have to do for the rest of this year in college and I have been informed what my targets are and what i will achieve after my apprenticeship in terms of qualifications and licenses.

I receive support from my employer whenever I need it. My manager and his team are only an email or a phone call away. Whenever I have needed assistance, I have been provided with one. During our reviews,our manager also asks us if there are any problems and ensures things are okay

My training provider which is Kingston college provides support whenever it is needed. We have enough time to complete and hand in our works and we are given enough resources and information needed to achieve whatever grade we want to. The college itself is a very good one and I couldn't have chosen a better college for my training.

I'm not very sure about this yet because what we do in college at the moment is general engineering and is not specific to the rail industry. I also haven't gone into my work place since I started because this year is a full time study in college to achieve my level two and part of level 3

There have been a couple of volunteering that we did for National training academy for rail and Sciemens over the past few months. These has been great opportunities to meet with others personnel from the industry and learn more things. We did also some activities during our induction in Northampton.

Do your research, learn as much as you can about the company. Be your absolute self. They are not very much interested in what you know at this stage because this is only an apprenticeship. They are rather interested in your personality and attitude towards the job. If you are motivated, you will surely excell.
