  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • If I am working an early shift, I will start my day by opening up the store and delegating jobs to my colleagues. Throughout the day I will issue tills to staff & and will also cash up the tills to ensure the correct amount is present at the end of the staff members shift. In addition, I will complete other manager tasks such as date checking products on the store, following the waste write off procedure as well as replenishing stock.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I believe that I have significantly developed my social interaction skills. Since working at Aldi, I am now able to confidently converse with customers at ease without ever feeling nervous or awkward. In addition, I have learnt how to be more time efficient in all tasks ahead of me both in and out of the work place.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • At the moment I am currently enjoying the Aldi Apprenticeship programme. It is an excellent way to develop from a store assistant into a deputy manger in a good time period. I enjoy working with my fellow colleagues and completing tasks as a group. I wish that I could receive more time in work hours to complete the coursework side of things, as I am currently completing a lot of work outside of the workplace on my days off.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the programme is great, the training and support I have received has been very good. I am able to confidently ask for any information if needed and receive the help needed. My Lifetime Training Mentor Mark Hughes has been wonderful in helping me throughout the entire course. He has been very caring and has taken lots of interest in me and my work. Once again, I believe that I should recive more hours in work time to study and complete I.C.T tasks.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As previously stated, my tutor Mark Hughes has played a significant role in my time at Aldi. Mark has helped me develop drastically in most aspects of a person. Mark has positively pushed me in order to show myself my actual potential and quality of work I produce. He has set up observations/presentations where Aldi area managers have been present so I am able to demonstrate and express my work and what I have learnt with the guidance of Mark as my excellent tutor. Mark is very easy to access and often reaches out via email to ensure I am on track of my work and to also ensure my general well being is okay. Mark truly has been better than I would have imagined to have as a tutor and I am very happy to have him as an adviser.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The apprenticeship has helped me learn the basics of the day-to-day roles and with marks help, provides a more detailed explanation. I than put the theory into practice by completing tasks I have researched using Fuse and answered by word documents. Also, I feel observations help me gain more knowledge about the tasks as they are being overseen to ensure the work is being complete effectively.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Currently, there is a Aldi football tournament taking place for all colleagues who wish to participate in. However, other than this there are no other extra-curricular activities to get involved in at my work. However, when I am not working I like to attend gigs & festivals with my friends and family. In addition, I like to keep fit by going for runs.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The Apprenticeship Scheme provided by Aldi is an excellent opportunity for young adults to gain lots of key life skills and to path a managerial career in retail. The training provider 'Lifetime Training' have been excellent in supporting me and my work. Aldi also provide support if I am ever in need of guidance. Once again, I would like more time in work hours to complete questions which help progress my qualification.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • Firstly, I would advise all applicants to have a positive attitude and to believe in yourself and to prove you are the correct choice for the role. Be open to being incorrect as failure is the key to improving and furthering learning. Also, I would advise that all applicants are dedicated and hard working as that is a very key aspect of working for Aldi.
