  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Hot Chef in Pret A manger I’m an expert on all hot food related tasks. My role comes with some very important safety-related responsibilities for me and my colleagues but most importantly, for our customers. Is my duty to care and manage the hot food correctly and maintain the best standards to be able to serve food with quality and freshness that Pret is known for.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Six months working in Pret A manger equals a full hand of new skills. I have learn to be more confident around people and more out going. Dealing with costumer on a daily basis gives you a different perspective of interaction in the workplace, I had drastically improved my communication skills and my organisational management skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • So far, it has been the best experience of my life, being part of such a incredible team has provided me with valuable knowledge. Pret is more than just a coffee shop, is a community of good people where I have learned to be more myself while becoming more professional.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Pret’s apprenticeship program is designed in such a way that allows us to connect the theoretical with the practical giving us enough time and resources to successfully apply all the teachings in us workplace. All group meetings have an theme that is approached using different techniques thats makes it easy and fun to learn.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Each apprentice is assigned with a personal trainer which is available to us 24/7 to answer any questions that we may have. We also get all the direct contacts needed within the Apprenticeship developing team in the main office in case we have any issues or doubts about the program itself.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Each apprentice is assigned with a personal trainer and there are regular meetings designed to work towards the fundamental topics of the internship. Our personal trainer makes sure that each topic is understood and all group meetings have an theme that is approached using different techniques thats makes it easy and fun to learn.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My personal trainer and development team directly supports me with my progress at work and made sure that my interests are protected during the program. I personally feel that they have always listen to what I have to say, the have effectively solve any issues and made sure that our training is best it can be so we can be able to translate it into our current workplace and future positions.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We are a big group and we don't get to see our colleagues very often as we all work in different UK areas. The development team makes sure that once in a while we all meet so they organise social activities were we can be together and have fun.

  • Being part of Pret's internship program is the perfect chance to gain qualifications, relevant experience and life skills that would help you to pursue higher goals in a management position while working for a company that sets up quality standard, that got all the right intentions and is socially positive to our community.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pret?
  • Is all about Passion. Make sure that Pret's vision and mission resigns within you, that you identify yourself with the company and you see yourself being and active part of it. Pret isn't looking for the best fit in terms of qualifications, is actually looking for a open minded person that has passion and determination, so if you have it, you good to go.
