  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to day work can vary. You are either on a project or not (this is known as being on the bench). If on a project the work revolves around the specific project role. This could involve travelling to and from project sites. When on the bench you have time to further your job based knowledge.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many skills whilst at the company. The jump from college to a degree apprenticeship helps you to develop a lot in terms of how to work in a professional environment, time management, personal responsibility etc. In terms of technical skills i have gained certifications related to my job role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is generally well organised and structured in a way that it is easy for an new apprentice. Bearing in mind that project based work can sometimes be on and off. The degree side is also pretty well organised (providing you check emails). However there are times that you may not be sure about when/where your next project will be, as well as, on campus days.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support at Capgemini for this programme is great. One of the main reasons for this is due to the people within your business unit. This is because both the apprentices and employees in your DU are very helpful and are easy reach out to. Whether its study or project issues, there is always a support system in place for you as a apprentice and also others who understand what you are going through.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Aston university help a lot in terms of offering support for training/studying. As apprentices we have regular q/a sessions set up for anyone who needs it. We can also book meetings and contact lecturers for support. In short, we probably get the same kind of support a normal student would get.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The degree offers a software engineering track, in which you would learn about coding and other programming/software related topics. As a software engineer this could help me in my role if i decide to go into coding. in addition, the degree involves giving presentations, group work and self studying, all of which are transferable skills that are used in the business.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The company lets you get involved in many events which you could attend. Some of which are work or network related. However, there are also other opportunities to take part in such as charity mountain climbing, rugby matches etc. Not only can you take part in these initiatives but you can also put forward new ones.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The opportunity that you get to develop a career in technology and attain a degree as an apprentice is maybe unmatched. You get to work at one of the biggest companies in the world and develop your skills in a way you choose. Whilst getting a degree that is being paid for. Why Capgemini specifically? As far as I am aware (at least in my cohort) Capgemini take on a large amount of apprentices for this Aston University degree programme. As a result their is a strong network of young apprentices that you can meet, get help from/ask for advice. As far as I am aware in my cohort there was a company that had only one student, whilst on the other hand, Capgemini apprentices accounted for a big majority of the room.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • If i had to give some advice to others applying it would be to be yourself. This is because if you have a genuine interest in technology and programming it will show. Practically speaking, the application has many stages, research each and prepare for them so that you can do your best.
