  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the platform engineering space building cloud environments for our customers. This work involves continuous development of the code and also continuous deliver to the clients live environments. This involves bringing new features into the platform, testing them and rolling out the updates via the correct process using pipelines

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • In my job role I have been exposed to lots of different technologies. None of which I knew before joining. So this has meant that I have been able to get my hands on the hottest technologies currently and really immerse myself within them. I have been on numerous training courses in order to start working towards my qualifications.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme itself is enjoyable. Being able to work in such a fun and enthusiastic team is a blessing. My team members are always looking out for one another so if you ever need help or advice they are always on hand to offer that to me. It is much more challenging than I expected but this is also what motivates me to push myself everyday.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured well and the modules that you complete through university do follow on from each other and build knowledge from the previous. So if this wasn't the case then it would be difficult to complete some modules. The distance studying is challenging because I find this way of working quite difficult as opposed to learning directly from a tutor.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The team I am in are always willing to help me no matter what. If I have any question then they will be able to find out the answer for me. So the level of support is subliminal from my team but I am unsure if that would be the case for all apprentices across the board.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • From Aston university we do get the support when need albeit quite slow a large proportion of the time. If I email a lecturer with a problem then I may be waiting a few days for an answer. To counter this we are given support by teaching assistants which do lead some lectures but if they do not know the answer to the question then they have to get the answer from the lecturer.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Personally in my role, my degree does not help me at all. This is due to the nature of the degree itself. The module content is basics/fundamentals of computing which although not outdated, are not what my role focuses on. My role focuses on cloud computing and very up to date technologies which the university course does not cover.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are so many activities to get involved in especially through the graduate apprenticeship programme. This encourages all GAP students to get involved and meet new people etc. This is primarily volunteering work in order to promote the Capgemini brand to potential future apprentices. I have attended these on many occasion and it has always been personally rewarding.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Yes I would recommend Capgemini because the company itself offers you so much more than just a job and a degree. It offers you the opportunity for endless progression in your career, endless opportunities in terms of training and hundreds of different teams all specialising in different areas of computing and consulting.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • During the application process make sure that you are honest about your skills. Capgemini are not looking to catch you out during this process. This want you know about YOU and whether YOU would be a good fit for the company. It is not always about the technical skills that they are looking for.
