  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am working in a Business Analyst role to produce data reports and databases using excel as the framework to plan a windows 10 migration around. I create reports to send to the client to verify data and also to summarize key aspects of the information we have gathered to the project in order to plan a successful migration. There is regular engagement and calls with the client to engage on the verification side of the analysis. Spare time is filled with company training in a chosen area of personal development and also with a focus on university work which is completed with webinars for an hour some evenings online.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have heavily developed skills in excel which has become a key software in all roles I have engaged with. Through university coding becomes a key focal point at first learning languages like Java, SQL, HTML, CSS, C#, JavaScript and PHP. You then specialize in Year 2, myself preferring to go down the Business Analyst route implement analytics and economics. Within the company you will also work towards certifications in technologies. I have chosen to develop my skills in SharePoint and Office 365 Microsoft technologies. There are lots of opportunities to expand your skill base.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme can be very hard work at times trying to balance work and university with a social life but with the amount of new skill you learn is also very rewarding. I get appropriate time off in terms of study leave for revision, coursework... Project teams have always been very understanding in allowing for time to do some uni work during the day. There are lots of opportunities to develop you skills I areas of your choice and your roles and project are matched as best as possible to your skillset and preference. Overall this is a high effort, high reward programme with great business progression.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Aston organize the programme well by providing dates and long term schedules. Module deadlines are moved around to accommodate for clashing deadlines and work commitments to help with the work, life, uni balance. There is a clear structure in place which is easy for apprentices to follow. The only downside I suggest is some years it can be difficult to find time for a stress free holiday as the time between uni blocks can occasionally be very short.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of social events. Most teams have an annual social where you can meet people you have spoken to online through email or skype and network with not only them but also have the opportunity to speak to high end management and for a positive relationship will all colleagues. • 9a. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Capgemini provides a real sense of togetherness with everyone supporting each other in their own personal progression. I have always been happy working with every member of every team and the opportunities to can have in such a huge global company are beyond what a lot of other businesses have to offer.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • I found that personality is more important than general knowledge. You do not have to be overly concerned with previous IT experience as there is a role for everyone. As long as you are open to new experiences and willing to learn you can go far. Ensure that through the application process, as cliché as it sounds, just be yourself. The recruiters want to see honest natural people who are good to work with, not robotic people who are deliberately trying to act a certain way.
