  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am part of the Digital business unit in Operational Finance, and support the Finance Controller (my line manager) in month end processes such as billing clients, recognising revenue, breakbacks, cost transfers etc. I also aim to improve the business by recognising different ways to improve these processes, whether it be by editing a pre-existing tool, or making a new one on excel. I am currently preparing myself to take on the additional responsibility of Project Accountant, where I will review monthly figures for certain projects and question/challenge PMs on things such as their costs for the month or forecasts.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have become a lot stronger on excel, learning all the different formulae that can be used. I am also in the process of learning to use Power Query and SQL to further my skills in designing excel tools for finance. My accounting knowledge grows every day as I face different problems and find ways to solve them with the help of my colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy the programme as it has given me the opportunity to work doing what I wanted to do. The studying on the side of full time work is a bit overwhelming, but I'm sure I'll get used to it as most my colleagues have reassured me.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is quite well structured in the sense of there being lots of opportunity to do extracurricular activities with the GAP programme, however I feel personally that I've been left to get on with things on my own without too much support really. This isn't a major issue but I feel that other's may think it is.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In my day to day job I am constantly supported by my team and line manager which is brilliant! From an apprenticeship point of view, I believe there could be a lot more support offered in terms of things like exam help, coping with workload and other things like that.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Kaplan allocate a tutor who will keep in touch every few months to make sure you're managing okay. They are easy to get in touch with and will arrange to set up a phonecall if needed, or will just communicate by email if that is sufficient enough for your needs.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • So far it hasn't helped much but that is down to the modules that I have been studying, however the next few modules I'm sure will be very useful as they are pure accounting based as opposed to Governance Law and Ethics which I'm currently studying now.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a lot of extra-curricular activites to get involved with and you will be supported if you decide to organise one yourself. I do think there could be more sports based activities such as teams or tournaments being organised, but that's coming from a sports fanatic who may be slightly biased.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Capgemini are really good to work for due to their flexibility and the people who work here are really friendly and welcoming. Capgemini have focuses such as Active Inclusion and a big focus on things such as Mental Health Awareness and saving our planet - all of which are big attractions for future employees.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • If you are coming in as an apprentice where you study ALONGSIDE working, I'd request as much support a possible as it is hard work and there is a large workload. I would also recommend sacrificing your Saturdays to go to college/your learning provider to sit in the classes they provide as this would be more beneficial than self study.
