  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my role of the apprenticeship I was working on the Samsung mobile warranty team so I would have to repair customer phones that have issues. First I would log onto my PC get phones and then follow a specific Samsung procedure while doing the repair step this ensuring compliance.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The main skills I have learned during my time at knowhow is repairing and following manuals in specific ways, ensuring compliance at all times a lot of training for different products. During college I have learned many skills to help my engineering side of work for example how to use different test equipment and trouble shooting.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme a lot as it offered a lot of diversity while on the college course, it had a lot of different lessons which covered a lot of subjects in engineering and the company always helped us with time to do our coursework if needed during work hours.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The course was organised/structured good, we knew when we had our next college sessions in advanced and when we got to them we knew what the lesson plan was for the morning/afternoon. Currently on the next level of college the organisation has gotten even better lesson plans are sent out beforehand.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Dixons carphone offered a lot of support as sometimes we needed to upload pictures to our online portfolio but we needed to get the pictures of us working our managers aloud us the time to do this during work hours to ensure that we were able to hit the criteria needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The Lincoln college group were supportive while on the course working towards the qualification because if we couldn't do something for our portfolio they helped create situations were this was possible for example if we didn't have training for something or equipment our tutor would help us get this.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training provided by the Lincoln college is very helpful in our work role as often sometimes you would get a fault with a phone and the only way to figure out what's wrong was with a multimeter and manuals the college provided us with the knowledge to know how to do this.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Dixons carphone offer a wide range of extra-curricular they offer multiple lessons and courses in our learning hub that can help with carrier development. IT, English and maths lessons are the most common. Team events are done roughly once a month to help team building throughout the company teams also.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Dixons Carphone to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Yes because since I've started my apprenticeship and finished the first level the company has given me full support, whether it being extra lessons in the classroom, extra training in the workplace and even extra time time during work hours to help us finish the coursework that's needed.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dixons Carphone?
  • Firstly id say make sure that you want to work for Dixons and the field of work its in, although the company are very supportive it can sometimes be stressful due to the nature of the work with it being actual customers products you're dealing with however if electronic engineering is for you I don't think there's a better place to begin your journey.
