  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I serve customers whilst behind the bar ( taking food orders, serving drinks or helping with general enquire s ). I keep the pub clean, tidy and presentable so that our guests arrive to a spotless and welcoming enviroment . All whilst providing excellent customer service, making conversations with guest and making sure that they are enjoying their visit.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been taught how to change a barrell which i thought id never know how too! so that bacme a big acheivment for me. I was also worried about making cocktails when i first started my job but i now know how to make them and with the breif sheet that we keep behind the bar it makes it light work!

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The unsociable hours are a struggle for me. Late nights and weekends as i have a 3 year old daughter too so it can work out very tiring as some nights i do not finish until 1 am and i am then back and 10.30 the same morning. However all in all i am enjoying the role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very organised / structured and it has surprised me how everything is on a plan and i know exactly what i am doing and what i am meant to be looking to do next. I know now what i am working towards and what to expect in the near future with my assesments.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As much as i need. i have his mobile phone number and i am able to message or call him whenever i need help with any of my work or tasks. he is very supportive and seems very open to any questions that i have or may have in the future.

  • As much as i need. i have her mobile phone number and i am able to message or call her whenever i need help with any of my work or tasks. She is very supportive and seems very open to any questions that i have or may have in the future.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Motivation to have my english , maths , and hospitality qualification at the end of these 12 to 15 months. I go in to work every day knowing that i will have gthat and the end of it and i will be able to broaden my knowledge into a new adventure and that is exciting.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have made a lot of friends in this role but their is not any extra curricular activities that anybody seems to take part in. Being a pub in a small village, everybody seems to know everybody any way, we are kind of one big family if you want to put it like that!

  • Yes

  • Good and realiable company to work for. Supportive business. Fun and up beat place to work. Good employee discounts and benefits! for example 50% off team food whilst on shift, 33% off whilst not working. Large business and very very succesfull. a really good place to work if you like interacting with people


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Ember Inns?
  • Take note of the unsociable hours. Busy weekend shifts and very late finishes. You must be a people person and be happy and comfortable making conversation and talking to people whilst behind the bar. Youll need an upbeat personality, reliable and willing to learn lots of new things. It is enjoyable!
