  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • People send in account closure requests and I then complete the requests and close them. I also do print and post which is relatively self explanatory, offshore advise us to print statements or factsheets and then send them off. I also do some processes in my team, which can range from creating a form that we then send to the insolvency practioner when a business is in debt and is going into the liquidation. I also do a process called simple servicing authority which is when a business is requesting to add another official onto their business record

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my knowledge of business banking and how we help and service customers. I have also developed my skills on the phone lines and how to deal with different types of customers. I had also gained experience of what office life is like and how all the sub-teams work together as one big team as they all help one each other in different ways

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the work that I do as I am challenged and every process/task is different. I enjoy working for Barclays as they offer training and help for their colleagues, especially as we are relatively new to the bank. My work can however become repetitive, but I feel like once I get trained on more processes I will be able to do a more variety of work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme has always had a good reputation in the business, many former apprentices at Barclays have gone onto great things, this is testament to how Barclays run the scheme. There is a lot of support from people within the business and also people from outside the business such a my talent coach from KnowledgePool

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a lot of support from Barclays themselves, they have a reputation for supporting and encouraging their colleagues and I can see why. They have careers specialists who have supported me throughout the apprentice programme so far and them employ people from external businesses to come and support us and give us a better understanding of the scheme itself.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training provider as they get people from other businesses to come in and support us as we learn everything from the textbook, they put on revision days and colleague days to support is in not only our apprenticeship, but also our development as a whole

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like its a goal that we are striving to, its good that the qualification is relatively prestigious. I feel like that is the motivation for us all to well as their is a qualification at the end of it all. The qualification gives us something to work towards.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Barclays like to give something back to the community, they have a scheme called life skills which is a when colleagues are able to take a few hours out of the office to go and help in the community, this can range from painting scout halls to helping school kids when they're in Gadbrook Park for the day.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great company to work for, the amount of support and help that you get whilst you're working at the bank is amazing. Also there are so many perks of working in Barclays, such as the amount of discounts on all sorts of things that you get, they also help support your pension and they will match the amount of money that you raise for charity.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • I would advise that they take advantage of all the perks that the bank has to offer, most of them are available to everyone and they should definitely be used by everyone as they're great money savers and they can benefit you greatly. I would also advise people to get involved with the life skills as it is a very good scheme that Barclays offer.
