  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently in the trading department and I am responsible for a number of resorts. I ensure I discount or premium holidays in order to get the maximum revenue and also ensure that all of our planes are full and ready for departure. I control the commercial sort priority for my resorts and I have specific load factor, margin and financial recovery targets.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definitely developed my presentation skills and TUI have provided me with courses and workshops so that I can do this. I have also developed on my communication skills as I am always communicating with different people from different departments both internally and externally. I work on emails a lot so I have built on my email skills as well which is something that I never really had before.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my apprenticeship programme as it has opened me up to so many opportunities to develop my career. I have also been lucky enough to visit Cyprus, Spain & Lapland whilst I have been on the apprenticeship programme which has allowed me to develop my resort knowledge as well as build contacts across the world.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • On the commercial apprenticeship scheme, we have our own team who manage the scheme and the HR apprenticeship team manage the qualification side of it. We have many engagement sessions and can voice our opinion. On our scheme, we have separate points of contact for development, HR & recruitment, PR & Comms and our qualification so I feel as if our programme is organised well.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive good support from my employer and they are really flexible with allowing me time to complete coursework and get involved in adhoc apprenticeship tasks or events such as charity projects or school/college visits. I agree with my manager in advance when I need time away from my job and it is catered for.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • In the beginning, I didn't receive a great deal of support from my training provider however they changed my assessor and now I have so much support from my new assessor. She will regularly call me when I need her and she is also understanding of work commitments vs. deadlines.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as if it makes me think more about what I am achieving at work as most of the time I can include examples from my work in my qualification course work. The qualification enables me to be more career focussed at work and that I want to achieve my long term goals.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are loads. There are lunch time clubs such as walking and knitting and also after work sports teams. We have a dedicated social team in the commercial division which organise events such as film nights or sports days and also summer and Christmas parties. There are always social events going on that anyone can get involved in.
