  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job role is to assess the supply vs demand for TUI Airways pilots. I take ownership for a model which allows me to display what the supply vs demand would look like if certain mitigations were in place. I take on different projects to support the business with new ideas and better ways of planning for the future.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Before working at TUI head office I had limited analyst skills. I had previously worked in retail so I learnt a completely new skill set working within the holiday airline. I had never really used Excel before for anything other than making lists, When joining head office I was put through advanced excel training which taught me skills that will be vital to my career within TUI.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The split of University time and work time really works for me. Having the University blocks every 3 months allows me enough time to focus on projects at work and I can plan for when I am not going to be in head office. The block learning week can be full on but I leave the week feeling like I have absorbed a lot of knowledge that is relevant to my role in head office and I can use this to better my progress in my role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We were given every deadline for our assignments in the first week of University which helped me plan in advance what time I would need 'off the job' throughout the year. We were also given all the University block week dates which meant I could plan my projects around these.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive copious amount of support from the head of early developments and apprenticeships, we regularly have catch up sessions so anyone can speak about certain concerns which I think is wonderful. I also get a lot of support from my direct line manager and head of department which helps me progress in my role and with my university studies.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My Lecturers have all given us there direct phone number and email for any queries we have and any help we need. We also have the option to use CASE for extra help with assignments and training sessions on academic reading and writing. I feel very supported by the University of Hertfordshire.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The learning at University is extremely relevant to my role in head office. As mentioned before I lave the university block learning week with a wealth of knowledge I can apply to my role. The sponsors from TUI will hold lectures to relate the module to our organisation, this is a brilliant idea and is very beneficial for all students.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are countless amounts of clubs available to join at work. We also have learning weeks every 3 months which allow us to learn new skills in short sessions which will help with our development. These sessions are very interactive and engaging. Networking events are held on certain occasions too.

  • 9a. Would you recommend TUI UK & Ireland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I am very proud to work for such a great organisation. I feel extremely lucky for the opportunity I have been given, To be the first cohort of the TUI Degree Management Apprenticeship is incredible. I am very excited for my future with TUI and I know anyone else who applied for this apprenticeship would feel the same. TUI is a great company to work for and has so many perks.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
  • Be very open to trying new things. The job role I am in now I would have never picked, and would never of thought I would enjoy. From being open to trying it, I have learnt a whole new skill set and really look forward to getting up in the morning and going to work because I love my job. Also, be prepared for a lot of hard work, balancing a full time job and University is hard, and sometimes stressful but with planning it is very do-able!
