  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Hi Role as an apprentice at Siemens Gamesa renewable energy is to assist and complete annual services to a high quality to ensure the turbines are working to their best ability and ensuring that I deliver a good level of work to the customer. Throughout my apprenticeship I will complete 2 years at college completing a btec level 3 and also a NvQ Level 3 I will also use knowledge gained on the job throughout years 3 and 4 to complete a competency portfolio and progress to a higher level of technician.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, throughout my years at college studying I have learnt new skills in electrical , mechanical subjects. I have learnt how to fault find on electrical systems, mechanical and fluid power systems. I use these skills in my day to day jobs in the turbines when troubleshooting and completing service tasks on the turbines.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am very passionate about the subject of engineering as you are always learning and you will always be learning. I enjoy the job I do and push myself to complete it to the best of my ability. There are always positives and negatives with a only negatives I had was having to move away from home from home but accepted I had to do this to do the job I want to do.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • as Siemens Gamesa Renewable energy is such a large worldwide company there are manty departments which deal with different organizations within the company. for example there are the travel tech department, construction, apprentice plus many more. Each department enables all parts of the company to be well structured and organized.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is much support from Siemens Gamesa during both the apprenticeship and also once employed. there are many people within the organizations apprenticeship team which you can contact if you ever need support and there is also a variety of methods to do this. when you first join the apprenticeship team you are given a mentor which can help you with any queries you have when you first start. you also get a mentor when you are at site who can help with any support when at site.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When training the training provider provides support when needed. The training provider works with you to enable to learn and complete the courses within the apprenticeship. During the apprenticeship you also learn skills which come to use when working on the systems which you have studied on. After my qualification I feel that I know my role well and I am knowledgeable about the systems I am working on.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification which I have completed enables me to perform better In my day to day role as a wind turbine technician. From my qualification I am well knowledge on electrical mechanical engineering and also the systems which are on a turbine such as the hydraulic and PLC and wiring systems.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Within Siemens Gamesa we have targets to meet each year, One of our targets for this financial year is to attended things like networking events to promote the business. As a apprentice I also enjoy events like these and I know before I was an apprentice meeting current apprenticeships helped gauge where I wanted to take my career.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe siemens is a very good company to work for. As an apprentice siemens train you, look after you and care for your progress very well. Once qualified there are many avenues which you can take to continue a career with Siemens Gamesa. As an apprentice within Siemens Gamesa I believe that the future is very good due to Siemens Gamesa being one of the leading companies within the wind industry which is one of the fastest growing industries.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens Gamesa?
  • I would advise that you are passionate about the role and want to complete it to the best of your ability. make sure that your CV is good and looks good and contains good experience and good detail about what you have done previously. make sure that in the interview stages you are well dressed and formal and that you know the role which you have applied for and also know key information about the company and why you want to work for them.
