  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work as a controller in operations. It's a great team. Some of my responsibilities include discussing shifts with officers and processing incident reports. My main function is to arrange cover for shifts that don't have an officer to fulfil the duty. This involves a fair amount of negotiating, communication and planning.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As a controller the main skills we utilise at work include scheduling and negotiating. This is because we have to convince officers who might otherwise not have been working to pick up shifts so that we meet the expectations of the customers; customers being retail stores being provided with adequate guards.

If for example I am able to cover shifts quickly I will enjoy it but this is limited to my productivity. Furthermore with regards to the college work I do enjoy it thoroughly as we always have discussions regarding the topics covered in lesson which provide various opinions from everyone.
