  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a senior involves the following: - Overseeing the day to day management of teams onsite - Delegating work to junior members of staff and ensuring their previous experience is taken into account when assigning this - Providing on the job training to junior members of staff, to enable them to complete their work - Reviewing work completed by junior members of staff and providing feedback on the work. - Preparing and monitoring budgets for engagements - Liaise with client staff to schedule engagements.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • There are lots of skills that have been developed over the course of the programme. Excel skills have been developed during the course of the programme. In addition, I have also developed time management skills. Also, I have learned how to effectively manage a team to ensure work is allocated effectively and completed on time.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I found the programme fairly enjoyable initially. In the first couple of years of the programme there were lots of new opportunities to learn new things and have new experiences. As the years pass in the programme there's more repetition in the programme and the type of work that is being carried out which makes it now less enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is fairly well structured and organised. College for the ACA exams is booked in advance and there is lots of internal training programmes. Sometimes there can be a lack of flexibility in the structure of the programme e.g. not able to sit exams when you would like to if that's not alongside the rest of the intake.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is lots of support from employer. the employer gives study support which involves time off work in order to attend college. In addition, the employer gives internal training - about 1-2 weeks worth a year, again time off work is given for this internal training so there is plenty of support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is lots of support from employer. the employer gives study support which involves time off work in order to attend college. The employer ensures that a counsellor (another more experienced staff member) is on hand if you have issues with college/ are feeling too under pressure or stressed, you are able to speak to them.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is extremely useful. The ACA qualification is an accounting qualification and the role at EY involves auditing financial statements. A good understanding of how to account for things is needed to be able to successfully audit financial statements. In addition, the qualification gives you the knowledge needed to have conversations with members of staff at the client.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are some activities to get involved in e.g. football, netball local team in local office. There are also opportunities such as social events like the quiz that's held annually or the EY Winter Ball to socialise with work colleagues. Sometimes work is so busy you can't take advantage of these though.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The opportunity is good overall. Also, there is the chance to gain a recognised qualification (ACA) and learn lots from the job. OVerall, the experience is positive as you get to work with some great people and build a good set of connections which will be useful in the future.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • - be confident in the application process and also when you start EY - Enjoy the experience and make full advantage of it. - take the time to get to know your team and work colleagues as this makes the job more fun - Say Yes to as much as possible throughout your time at EY
