  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • QSB Technician - Quality Assurance Technician specialising in Parts Quality. Containing quality issues relevant to suppliers, working with suppliers on route cause analyse and problem resolution to improve overalll quality. Interact with large amount of production and support staff as well as suppliers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Communication skills and techinical knowledge have greatly improved. NVQ2, C&G2 and BTec3 in Mech Eng completed, working towards NVQ3 and HNC currently. PMO NVQ completed at work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work is challenging and offers you something different each day. Also I am working with a wide variety of poeple with all sorts of different back grounds and knowledge basis. The company strives for perfection so you push yourself to do the same. overall its a well balanced and challenging programme.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BMW Group?
  • As an apprentice I've recieved a lot of input and support from my manager and peers to help me develope. Also they tend to get me involved with projects to give me an insight into other parts of the business and to expand my knowledge base. As far as reconition goes within my own department I recieve a reasonably amount, and with larger projects within the rest of the business. Externally I have represented the company at the Festival of Speed and been involved in a number of projects inthe surorund community.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I recieved an indepth induction in my first few weeks as well as having a set developement plan laid out for the duration of my apprenticeship. The structure of my department allows you to clearly see the heirarchy.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The college had a tutor visit me in the work place for the first year of my apprenticeship and I have my NVQ assessor visit regularly to review how I am doing.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • During my first few months at the ompany I was paired up with a buddy who mentored me. After this period I still recieve support from my team leaders, managers and co-workers. The HR team are always around to give you advice or to give you support when dealing with the college.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The package recieved is good for an apprentice with yearly increases in salary based on performance.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The apprentice scheme gives you many oppurtunites to travel to other plants around the world, get involved in the community or to represent them at events such as the Festival of Speed.

  • Yes

  • The company offers a well balanced scheme where you work towards globally reconised qualifications. It allows to you develope yourself as a person and offers you a vaste amount of oppurtunities.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • Work hard, show a willingness to learn new things, get involved with a voluntary organisation to show commitment and willingness.
