  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is a wind turbine technician. Here we monitor, service and maintain 152 wind turbines at clyde wind farm. My day to day job starts with a tool box talk in the morning before heading out to the stores to gather any tooling required before going to the turbine.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned many new skills whilst being in this role. Some of these new skills are learning how to use hands on tools such a torque wrenches, spanners etc. Other skills that I have developed is a better mechanical understanding of things operate in order to gain an idea of what is happening with the turbine.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme. On a day to day basis I get to work in an industry that is new but booming. it a vastly growing industry that provides great views and a great environment to work in. There is a great community within all at work and I feel very luck to be in the position im in.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship scheme is very well organized and structured. There is a great support network from line management, site management and supervisors and even through technicians as well. The organization is very supportive and accommodating in ensuring that you progress, get rewarded and are not lacking in anything such as confidence, discrimination etc.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • we receive a lot of support from our employer. Frequently there are check ups either via email or face to face meeting. Here a form is filled out detailing your progress and you discuss any issues or achievements that have entailed and a better understanding of the apprentice is gained.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • we receive excellent support and feedback from the training provider when working on our qualifications. The trainer provides detailed feedback on points to improve and where we have done well on our knowledge questions/ coursework and is always fair in his marking and notes when pointing us in the right direction.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like the training and qualification we receive helps us a lot in terms of performing better In the workplace. It gives you a better insight into how processes and site operates/ works and also helps you gain an understanding into certain machinery or equipment that is found/ used within the turbine.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there are a number of different extra-curricular activities available for us to get involved in. Some of these are extra training in order to further progress within the company. Nights out such as Christmas party, team building exercises. As well as this there are external company wide events that help us gain a bigger picture of the company as a whole.

  • Yes

  • Siemens is an excellent company to work for. Not only do you work for one of the leading companies within the industry. But also get to work in personally the best job in the world. It's rewarding nature and views are second to none and can say with full confidence that siemens support network is second to none.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • I would give the advice of do not hesitate in applying for a job within siemens. Be yourself and relax when answering any questions, it is not to catch you out its to gain a better understanding of you as a person and finally if you are lucky enough to be successful then jump at the opportunity of working for this company.
