  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I currently work in the accounting and outsourcing department, preparing accounts, VAT returns, simple tax computations, tagging, bookkeeping. For a range of different sized clients. On a day to day, I may be visiting clients site, training, webinars or completing client work at my desk. I am exposed to a variety of different types and sized clients.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes - Working here has complemented my college studies well and I've learned a lot of organisational, communicational and team working skills. I am better able to plan my working week, and work well individually or as a team. My technical skills have increased massively, with the combination of study and work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the variety and constant learning. This can be intense sometimes, and not very flexible however I think its a very good programme and there's a lot of support. College breaks up the week and allows me to have more of a work life balance. It is tough, as there is a lot to learn, and with completing my course over online classroom, I find that I sometimes it is more difficult than if I had been put onto classroom learning.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured and organised. Pathways are given to the students at the start of their journey to show which courses will be sat when, however dates from BPP sometimes are given late which doesn't allow for any annual leave planning. This can be potentially problematic with booking client work into the planner too.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support is good from my immediate team and line manager. We have a central team who manage the college affairs, although we have had some teething issues, the support is there. They will eventually book us onto courses, exams and liase with BPP on our behalf. Although I think that it was better when each individual was responsible for their own bookings.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We are assigned a BPP tutor, who is on hand to answer any queries, this is helpful. I find the online classroom a bit tedious, which is the default option we are booked on. The forums are there for us to use though to contact the tutor, and there are recordings, VLE ladders to complete, and regular home study which keeps us active between classes.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Very much so. The content of course links directly in to what we do at work so it's really helpful. There are a lot of people I can ask, if there is something at college I don't understand. And visa versa. I have grown so much since starting my ACCA programme.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, we have regular after work networking sessions which allow us to all catch up. In our individual teams, we can arrange team building activities. We have also got office away days planned. We can also join various networks within Mazars such as religious groups, womens groups etc.. We are encouraged to attend networking events outside of the office too.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mazars LLP to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The lifestyle and culture at Mazars is friendly and diverse. I feel able to practice my faith, be sociable and engage with people here. There are many opportunities for growth and networking, which gives variety to my working week. Mazars invests in their people which is a comforting element. Other than that, we have a lot of departments to join, and operate a fully agile policy.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mazars LLP?
  • Be yourself! Because that's what it's all about here. Be determined and motivated to work hard, to better yourself personally and professionally. And be ready for the exams! They are tough, but will be so worth it. Mazars offers the opportunity to grow, and prosper along with a great team of people!
