  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I believe I always had a good sense of customer service and what clients need however this had given me the opportunity to adapt that knowledge to this new role. I firmly believe I am a much better person in myself as well now that I have such a rewarding role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying my apprenticeship a lot. I think as with training in all worj places there are always the boring bits that have to be done but I have been given the opportunity to stretch my learning and observe and ask questions about things i may not see regularly or ever whilst being a small branch and some of that has been fascinationg.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The initial starting and sign up was a little rocky which we later found was due to the trainers being much more one to one based than talking to large groups. My training and work one to one with my trainer has been great. She always assists me by rewording questions that I have not quite understood or I have over thought it.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As much as possible really. I have asked colleagues for support with some work when required too and also for my stretched learning. I have also asked to be at my hub to observe care and preperation ona deceased and how floral tributes are made and they are working on that for me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As much as I need. I do try to do nost of the coursework and stretched learning by research but where that may have failed I know I can ask my colleagues for support and they will oblige. I have asked many questions about things like embalming and exhumation which are things I am unlikely to see or do but I am more knowledgable than I would have been.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am always mindful of the things that I learn and where they can help me in my role. How to react with clients sensitively is obviously a big part of the role and is there for very important. I have learnt how to also use my role to attach to my learning journal and show the things I am doing well and learning more about.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There has been one or two open days which I have been unable to attend due to transport to those branches. There was a Christmas party meal for staff to get together and they have just signed up to pretty muddy which unfortunatley drops at a bad time for me.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I enjoy working here. The ethics of the company are strong and they work hard to maintain that. I enjoy being able to get out into the community and help others through my work which makes an already rewarding job even more so. Yes all companie have their flaws and quirks but they can be worked on and ironed out.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • When I applied it was via an open day with a lot of other people which could have been daunting or intimidating but just be yourself. Be the best version of you that you can be and show them your strengths. Answer questiins openly and honestly we are all human and thry do see that.
