  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Funeral arranger, meeting grieving families from all walks of life. Giving advice and helping guide them through the funeral process. Meeting thier expectations within thier budget and being empathetic and honest at all times. Making sure that they understand the whole procedure, and ensuring they get full and total bereavement care.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have come into the funeral industry from a retail background, so every step is a new learning curve for me, within the funeral family. Although retail is very much customer satisfaction orientated, the funeral family needs to offer completely different customer focused skills. The need for caring and understanding is much greater.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is a way forward for me, to enhance my skills in my chosen role. The modules and courses are designed for specific roles within the funeral family. But it also covers the general laws and regulations with regard to all employment sectors. Health and safety and employment laws specifically.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The course is structured around my current knowledge and is of great use. When you first get onto the course a skills based assessment is done to allow the team to know in which direction and what courses needed to expand your knowledge to be able to fulfil the duties of your chosen role.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am given time to study for the course, the company provide on the job training by providing an experienced work buddy on a day to day basis. They also provide you with a course coach to help you snd guide you through any courses or disciplines you need help with.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • All the trsining required from course literature to workbooks, your coach is slways available to offer help and advice at all times. The coach meets with you face to face on regular occasions and gives good honest and constructive feedback. This helps you to understand the modules and makes you feel comfortable knowing you have support

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It will end in a diploma within my chosen field, it also continues to help if I choose to progress my career to differing roles wirhin the funeral family. I feel that through this learning and coaching I will be better equipped to fulfil my role and therefore benefit the clients by being very knowledgable in my field.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have numerous social groups wirhin work, that sllows us to relax outside of the stressful confines of Funeral planning and arranging. It gives a release to all involved and it also gives the opportunity to share best practices with your peers within the industry. Marketing being a prime example of sharing ideas.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a caring company to work for and with, opportunities for career progression are very good. The training and courses provided by the company are extremely beneficial to the colleagues, which in turn means that our customers and clients get the excellent and knowledgable service they deserve at all times.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • Be honest and forthright with your application, dont be afraid to raise any concerns you may have of the role you are applying for. Be confident in yourself and your abilities going into a new role and be open to new initiatives and be willing to tske on board the training and expertise that will be afforded you to be a success in your chosen career.
