  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I arrange funerals for clients who have had some one close to them pass away. I also arrange funeral plans for people who wish to arrange their own funeral before the time comes. I organise masonry work such as head stones etc. I also do admin and banking for the funeral home.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting my role I have greatly improved my skills. I have learnt a lot about the process of arranging funerals but also believe I have developed my people skills a lot. I have also improved my it skills and learned about banking procedures and other internal procedures such as guardian etc

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I think the program is going to be good. However as I have not long started it I am unsure if the elements I am going to enjoy. I am really looking forward to getting started and improving my skills even more. I think it’s great we have a coach to guide us through this journey

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It appears to be very well structured. We have a coach who will work with us on a one to one basis and regularly provide support. We also have a lot of online resources we can rely on and have been told that our line managers will provide us with support if needed

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • So far I have received good support from my employer. My line manager has been briefed on the program and assured me I will be given lots of opportunities to develop my skills. I have also been told I will be given time within my working day to ensure I can get things completed on time

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have been told we will have lots of support from our coach. She will visit us in branch but also have remote visits with us which can be a phone call etc. We have her email address and phone number and have been kept up to date on what’s happening so far

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe it will be a big help. My role is very important as it’s often the first point of contact a family has with the company and it is always good to endure you have the correct skills. I also think in this industry you learn something new every day.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We are always provided with opportunities to involve us in the company. We get invited to regular listening events which means we get to meet up with other colleagues we also have regular briefings in our area but are also strongly encouraged to get involved in community work. We also get the opportunity to attend some regional events

  • 9a. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I enjoy working for the coop I believe they are a company who value their employees. We are well supported as staff by all our colleagues and managers. We are also offered lots of development opportunities too. The company offers great staff benefits and also does a lot to help local communities.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • Take your time. Find out as much information about the coop values as you can as it’s a very different organisation to most. Research the role you want to do and try and speak to others who already work there. Take the time to look over the online application system before applying.
